digital vs analog speedo

Rather than continue nasty thread creep, I figured I'd pull the topic to it's own thread.

To summarize:
DIGITAL
- Pros
-- Easy to read
-- It's the way it is
-- Looks cool
- Cons
-- May be hard to read in sunlight
-- May be hard to discern between 80, 60, 90 (one element dif)
ANALOG
- Pros
-- Extra data from "rate of movement"
-- Easy to read positionally or in peripheral vision
- Cons
-- Accuracy / interpolation between numbers
-- Having to figure out positional speed indication
-- It's not currently an option

Now that I've summarized to start, I want to argue on the side of digital. I spent some time watching and figuring out how I read my analog speedo. I look at where the needle is, look for the numbers around it (read those) then guesstimate between those numbers, sort of counting ticks.

If you break down my actions you'll see I probably read 2 numbers (or at least one + made a greater or lesser than decision) counted some ticks, then decided on my final speed. Assuming all things equal, that's about 4-6 Edge Cycles.

When I've driven digital speedo, all I do is read the number. 1 Edge Cycle.

Sat in an 8 today, gotta say whole gauge pod is AWESOME! I hope they don't change a thing (except to make the temp and oil guages real).

If you haven't seen it in person or driven it a little, I don't think you should be arguing for an analog speedo yet. Drive it for a week and then tell me what you think.

During my test drive I kept seeing something blink in my peripheral vision. My instinct was that an idiot light was coming on, but it was just the numbers on the speedo. However, I know I'll get used to it after a day or two. :)
