Difference between Stock and HID headlight assembly?
I have searched, so please don't flame me.
Anyways, is there a difference in the headlight assembly or is it just the bulbs that make the headlights "HID"? I need new parking lights for my headlights from RotaryFX and there is an option for 6 LED or 9 (which is only for HID headlights). The second question I have is, how do I tell which I have ? (being HID or regular halogen I guess.) You can reply here or message me on: AIM:ChadBroChillx21 MSN:xchidox@hotmail.com Yahoo: Chadwisk@yahoo.com Any info would help. Thanks in advance. |

Now for the second question, how do I tell which I have equipped on my car? |
hmmmm what model/trim do you have? (I.E. sport, touring, or grand touring?)
|
Well, I have leather seats, seat warmers, moonroof, but no navi.... So i'm guessing touring? I'm trying to find something online to go off of....
|
No dice on finding anything on 2005 rx8's telling you what kind of model you have. I'm probably just retarded, but I'm also trying to get water out of my tail light with a blowdryer >.>

This may just be on the european models, but here at least the HID lights always have the headlight washers, non-HID lights don't.

Since you have a moonroof and leather seats, that means you have the grand touring package. Yes you should have the HIDs.
A way to be sure is:Turn your headlights on and look to see if your headlight pattern is staircased. ie: looks like steps. |

umm cant you just stand in the front and check if they're blue? non HID lights are regular yellow bulbs no?
|
Standard Halogens and HIDs are white. A little whiter than the old non-halogen sealed beams, so you'd see a difference side-by-side, but they don't look blue.

Sorry guys but no one really answered MY question reading through theses posts.. My HID ballast went bad so I bought after market xenon HID kits from eBay in 4,300k. My question is, are the projectors different in the head lights themselves if I were to install HID kits into non-HID headlights?
i.e. Are Non-HID equipped headlight projection w/after market HIDs = to HID equipped headlight projection w/aftermarket HIDs |
the major difference between the two headlight housings are the projector bowls. HID bowls are a bit wider and the shape is a bit different. The second difference is the shape of the cutoff shield.
You can put aftermarket HID's in a Halogen assembly (I have). The only issue you will face is that the light projection would be no different than a Halogen bulb. I.e. you do not get the projection length that you would expect from an HID. What you can do if you want though, is to grab this: Mazda RX8 Projectors - Bargain Basement from The Retrofit Source Inc and swap out the halogen bowl and shield ;) |
The difference is that the HID assembly has the HID ballast in the bottom of it, which changes the bulbs for the low beams only. Everything else works with everything else.
The parking light bulbs (194) you have are the same for both, so the rotaryfx ones will work on both types of assemblies. My suggestion, do not buy those bulbs. Look on v-leds or superbrightleds or auto illumination and you will find better quality, brighter bulbs, for cheaper. Also the ones from rotaryfx have a blue tint (which I didn't want anyways) so I ended up replacing mine right away. |
Passenger Side Headlight
3 Attachment(s)
Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum, and was doing some deep research on the 8s headlights. My passenger side headlight has a TON of condensation in it and I have resorted to changing the whole headlight. I have read many forums on this and still cannot determine what ones I have (Halogen/HID). I did however contact my Mazda dealership and provided them with my VIN # and they claim it is HID and NOT Halogen. My lights look blue at night. You will notice the condensation as well in one of the pics. Mazda tells me there HID and now I have some other owners with an 8 telling me there Halogen. I am getting frustrated with this as I just want to replace it and be done with it. Any feedback is appreciated. Many thanks in advance! It is also a 2005 and as far as I know it is not a Shinka/Grand Touring/Touring. It is just standard. Also the previous owner says they are Xenon, but I don't know what to think anymore.

Biggest diffrence between HID and halogen (apart from the light output obviously) is the warmup time when the light are turned on. Halogen are pretty much instant on at full light output while the HIDs have to warm up a bit before they reach full output. Don't mind the color of the light because some Halogen bulbs have filters to emulate the bluish color of HIDs.
If you're still not sure about what you have after this, just pull out on of your low beam bulb. The difference between a halogen and HID bulb is pretty big: HID (D2S): http://www.xenonmaster.com/images/d2sbig.jpg Halogen (H7) http://www.quintezz.com/media/134229...en_bulb_h7.jpg |
