Okay, so if we have a problem with our coils, and the vehicle is still under B2B warranty, coils AND plugs should/will be replaced per warranty?

Thanks.

Hey good news for ya, i forgot to refer you to this awesome site that covers everything you may need to know about repairing/diagnosing problems with your rx8. just click this link, go to engine then ignition system then ignition coil inspection. then take a multimeter and check per instructions...good luck!

Coils for sure. Get the wires replaced as well just to be sure. Even if you recently changed the spark plugs, screwed up coils could have ruined the plugs already. Try the new coils and wires with the plugs you have and if everything's not great, then replace the spark plugs.

I noticed the fluctuating tach at idle comment. There is a flash out that will help to stabilize your idle (unless you already got this), if you are in warranty it is free.

Like a cold slap in the face. I like it!

More than likely coils. But it could be a bad engine.

Hey guys...an update

so, i took it in and they said the coils were 'NON FUNCTIONING' (no wonder it died). also, the spark plugs that I had replaced 4k ago...they were INSTALLED INCORRECTLY by the non-mazda place i took it to.

so i got coils, plugs, throttle body clean out and fuel injector cleaning done. $900

so, i swallow hard, drive home and when i get home i notice that in idle its still 'kinda misfiring'. It definitely runs smoother than before with a lot more power!, BUT, in idle that tach fluctuates from 400 to 900 RPM. I walk back to the exhaust and listen. Sure enough..its misfiring.

so i took it back in this AM and he said he has to keep it until Monday when he can call Mazda about it and see what needs to be done. He said he noticed its misfiring, though the diagnostics are coming out clean. He's puzzled.

We'll see what happens. Best case (I think) new engine and refund of my money.

DUDE. AREN'T YOU LISTENING?!?!?! It's your coils!!! Change your coils!!! COILS!!!

I'm kidding... hope they figure out what's wrong with it, and take responsibility, if need be.

You should take a video of it misfiring at idle for posterity. Post it so we can see what you're talking about.

yeah a video would b nice....if it throwing a code? It can't misfire and not throw a code(at least that i know of) are u sure it's not just how a rotary runs? I know that when i first got mine i thought something was wrong with it because if u stand at the exhaust it sort of goes (bare with me) puff, puff, puff, puff it's not a steady airflow it's like u can tell everytime the rotor is turning lets out a puff!

Ya get me?

Couldn't resist gloating.

Glad you found out the fix.

throttle body clean out ... thats epic failed right there. You can take it out and clean it urself with just basic handtools lol.

anyway, 900 bux ... ahh, u better hope that your motor is failing so u can get ur money back, its a total rip off. (and next time, dont go back to the place that mis-placed ur plugs.)

Update Update!!

The dealership called today. They said they have to do a compression test because their mechanic THINKS one of the rotors is COMPLETELY DEAD. He said he has to confirm this with a compression test.

They have to wait to get the device they're supposed to do the test with. If it fails, they'll call Mazda and I'll get a REMAN and, HOPEFULLY, my $900!

Now, REMAN engine.... good, bad or ugly?

i'm guessing its a good thing. anything is a good thing at this point. They're keeping my car until mid week! Sheesh.

Most importantly, I'm not crazy and neither are most of you!

yeah i've read and talked to sleepy z already.

i did get a compression test. the numbers from that is what told them it had to be replaced by mazda.

what gets me...actually what really really pisses me off this the fact that they had me spend $900 dollars on coils/plugs etc - on which i drove 10 miles until i brought the car right back to them! what gives!!

they refuse to refund that money. should i have them give me all those parts back??
