Is this a Design Flaw?

What was Mazda thinking when they designed THIS.
https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...chmentid=73011

I should note that I was taking the wiper off when I discovered this. The last time I took it off (for installing the 4pt bar) I didnt have a hood on so it was not an issue.

But basically, you close the hood, say bai bai to your wiper arm.

army_rx8 03-23-2006 11:22 PM

why would you lift up the wiper arm when your hood is open like that?

i'm a lill' cinfused :scared:

JEHRX8 03-23-2006 11:25 PM

Are you high?

Parmer8 03-23-2006 11:29 PM

Really, why would you do this? It's not a design flaw. You just can't idiot proof the idiots.

LiveBlues 03-23-2006 11:43 PM

I'm still chuckling.

army_rx8 03-23-2006 11:44 PM

^hehehe me too....HAHAHAHAHA

RL8 03-23-2006 11:49 PM

rear doors can't be close if the fronts are opened... now that's a design flaw

Renesis_8 03-23-2006 11:52 PM

... You have a design flaw...

carbonRX8 03-24-2006 12:44 AM

I came back after posting an item on ebay, and "Hey, I got 10 responces. People must like me. After 35 years of rejection and ostrisizm, people really like me!" :Click: :tear:

Seriously, you have to lift the wiper arm to remove it. The hood was up, I was lazy, and I tryed to remove it that way. Hence, the discovery of Mazda's only design flaw.

Raptor2k 03-24-2006 12:57 AM

The seat warmer buttons are a design flaw. And do rattles count?

carbonRX8 03-24-2006 01:19 AM

THe seat warmers are positioned so that you can convienently turn them on or off with your elbow. No need to go through the annoying, not to mention, dangerous, motion of removing your hand from the shift lever.

Rattles let your know the car is in motion. The engine is soooo smooth, it would be hard to tell otherwise. (allowing that you dont look out the window often.)

NgoRX8 03-24-2006 01:23 AM

the front cup holders are a design flaw too.

Krankor 03-24-2006 06:33 AM

The seat luke-warmers themselves are a design flaw, not the switch for them.

Razpewton 03-24-2006 07:02 AM

Holy carp!! No wonder I keep snapping off my dadburn wipers! I keep lifting them when I'm checking my oil. I've gone through at least 30 pair of wipers. I feel so stupid. :Freak_ani

They weren't ment to keep the hood proped up. :mdrmed:

fredw1 03-24-2006 07:59 AM

When I read the title of this thread, I thought it was something that might of been of significance. On my 8, the wipers break off if I lift the wipers more than 90 degrees with the hood closed.

guy321 03-24-2006 08:06 AM

The seat warmers work GREAT!! Even when it's REALLY REALLY cold like 35F!

You must have been stoned when you made your great "discovery."

The next time you're that high, shine a flashlight through the sun visors.

Mindblow.

Mine heat up pretty well. Assuming my arm doesn't keep switching them off whenever I shift.

jaguargod 03-24-2006 09:29 AM

The integrated head unit is most definitely a design flaw.

Parmer8 03-24-2006 09:34 AM

You can also break the wipers if you raise them up and lift up the hood. That's also a design flaw. Where does it end?

How are you people shifting? Everybody keeps complaining about how they accidentally turn off their seat warmers with their elbows when they shift. I don't think that I could do that, even if I tried. When I'm shifting, my elbow is a good six inches over the buttons. Maybe its just because I'm so super tall (5'10", thank you very much).

I do think that the rocker switches are kind of lame, though. They should just be one touch on/off so that the seat warmers automatically reset to off when the car is turned off.

My warmers are plenty warm for me. They seem to get about body temperature. But I do live in Dallas. The experience of Northerners may vary.

KAtC10 03-24-2006 10:13 AM

How about when you try to take a siesta in the 8, recline the seat, lean back, and my head fits just PERFECTLY onto the metal rotary indent. Doesn't make for the most comfortable nap. :-\

1.3L 03-24-2006 10:17 AM

It's not a design flaw, it's a feature. You can replace your wiper blades while standing in the shade.

Thank you all!! This thread just brightened my otherwise dull day at the office!! I'm still chuckling . . . :rollingla

WHAT HATH I WROUGHT?

(I am ashamed to admit it but I was semi-serious when I posted this, hence the placement in the Discussion forum. :hangs head:)

(On a side note, for some reason, I am always being asked if I am high. Are my observations that outragous?)

It's for medicinal purposes only, right? :smoker:

I didn't say elbow...I don't see how that's possible. The mid-point of my arm touches the buttons. When I'm shifting south into second or fourth, the buttons sometimes go off if I'm resting my arm on the console. I suppose if you shift using your palm on top of the stick instead of the joystick-fighter-jet style, it wouldn't happen much. I'm 6'1", 6'4" wing-span if that matters.

I am the only design flaw I am aware of in my Mazda.

BunnyGirl 03-24-2006 03:30 PM

That was cute. :)

stickman 03-24-2006 05:30 PM

Another design flaw is that you can get tickets with this car.

moRotorMotor 03-24-2006 05:39 PM

The Bridgestone Potenza RE040 tires are a design flaw.

Raptor2k 03-24-2006 05:56 PM

Well, MY seat warmers are embarrassingly weak, compared to my friends' VW and Audi, respectively. Which was what motivated me to want seat warmers in the first place. Hmmm, based on this thread, I'm almost wondering if maybe I'm accidently hitting the switch off and not realizing it....

And if he had, then *I* never would've gotten to find out about it. I don't understand people's obsession with stale old threads when we can have nice, new, minty-fresh ones like this.

You do realize that the search thing was a joke, right?

No, I didn't realize that. I guess I'm just too ground down by all the search nazis around here. I offer you my apologies.
