Dealership woes

Just sent my 8 in for the 15,000 mile service, and had a little trouble with the Park Mazda service department. First, has anyone heard anything about Mazda changing the 8's oil requirements? They insisted on putting in 10w30 instead of 5w20. Also, they said I could supply my own oil, so I bought 4 quarts of Royal Purple 5w20 to put in, and they refused to do it, claiming it would void my warranty. I found that questionable, seeing as Rosenthal Mazda recommends it. These guys have given me the run-around before, and I'm thinking of switching to another dealer.

that's gay. I take mine to a local grease shop to change my oil. Much cheaper.

Switch to another dealer! I have not heard anything about Mazda changing thier oil requirements. It sounds like that dealership might not have any 5w-20, so there saying 10w is fine. I dont get how they could claim a certain brand of oil would void your warrany when its the same wieght, and imagine some of the cheap brands that get put in at a quick lub place.

Think no more. Find a more customer-friendly service department. Then, when you get your survey for the visit to the original dealer, you know what to do.

I can't imagine why they would just arbitrarily change the weight of your oil, make you supply your own, and then tell you they won't use what you brought. Time to complain to Mazda about this crappy service department.

Also, don't let them fool you into thinking you need all of that stuff that they say is involved with their $149 15K service. I told them to only do what is required in the owners manual, and that I have a K&N filter and tire rotation through Discount Tire. My 15K service cost me $38.

Before I register my (strongly worded) complaint with Mazda, no one is saying they've heard anything about this change in oil weight?

That's a good tip jaguar, I'll keep that in mind. 15k is comin' up soon!
Thanks! :)

I haven't heard anything about it and the 2006 manual says the same as before.
