Dealership Wants to buy my car?

So i got this strange call from the dealership I normally take my 8 in for service.

The sales manager said that they were low in stock (I am assuming 8's) and that they were throwing a ton of money into used buys.

Now I am not sure what the heck is going on but I think it may have something to do with the fact that when I brought my car in last time I wanted to test drive the 09 and expressed slight interest in perhaps buying one if the deal was really good.

So basically I am trying to figure out how legit his story is and if I should believe it or not?

You really asking if you can trust what a dealer is saying?? RX-8 sales are very low they are not in short supply. If you really want to get an 09 try doing two independent deals. Get a below invoice price on the 09, then get a KBB full value on your older 8. bet you will not hear back from them.

dealer are buying because they know that rx8's primed for sale and are worth very little. the market is just right to low ball people to get their rx8 and sell it low back out.

As far as I'm concerned it's a dealership ploy to get you to buy a new car.

Last summer we happened to be driving by the Acura dealership and my wife said she wanted to take a look at the 2007 MDX because she had the 2004 MDX and she wanted to see how different it was after the redesign.

She loved the car and the sales woman said the same thing, "Oh we're low on the last generation MDX on our used lot and the one you have now is the most popular color! We'll give you a lot for your car and you can drive home with a new one!"

My wife liked the idea so we drove home that night in an 07 MDX, and they did give us a fair price for our "old" one, but I've heard about dealerships calling my friends with a similar pitch on various cars.

For me I guess it worked out. Maybe see what they have to say...

If you go to www.mazdausa.com and do an inventory search for RX-8's within 50 miles of Dallas it will return 59 cars. RX-8 are not in short supply.

Definitely a ploy. I receive letters stating the same thing. We own three cars, and I've received the same thing on all three. They just want to get you into the dealership.

+1

I get letters in the mail like that for cars I don't even own any more/have not owned in a few years. Just trying to get your business is all.

Thinking about it now I dont really want an 09 anyway, gonna wait for the new
16x (or is it x16?) to hit in 2010 or 2011 before I get another.

omg! I sell cars for a living man. LOL I call random people selling their cars privately and tell them we want their car, its just basic prospecting, ignore it.

What's your phone number?

I have some land in Manhattan that is in excess supply.

I can really give a good deal on your OLD Rx8.

To be named later 07-16-2008 09:57 PM

The dealership knows that they can probably make more money selling your used 8 than they will on a new 8, so they are trying to sucker you into a deal that will net them $500 on the new RX8 and $2,000 on your trade in.

Being a former car sales guy I can promise you this is a sales tactic to get you to come in and buy a new car. I would get service reports for the past few months and look for vehicles that had serious repair bills, high miles, or anything which might suggest they could want out of their car.

I'd then call the customer and tell them that we were running low on used cars OR that I had a customer who really was interested in their vehicle and that I could give them a really great trade in deal.

I'd call maybe 30 or 40 of these people per day.

Remember it's not the sales guy who determines the price for your trade in, it's the sales managers and their team. The sales guy can promise the sky but unless the dealership is willing to make good on it, it's hot air.

Unless you're interested in trading, I'd blow it off.

Just a scam. I got one of those letters that was pretty funny. In big print it said they'd pay the original sticker price for the car. In the fine print it said they'd adjust the price downward by 45 cents for every mile on the odometer.

I filed it along with all the "Your warranty is running out" letters.
