Dealership talk

So.....my baby won't start. I assumed she was flooded but the folks couldn't get it started using the "de-flooding" procedures i sent them and I'm overseas right now so i can't do anything. I sure don't want to spend any of the limited time i have back home tryna get my car started. I've still got lots to learn bout y car so I got her towed to a dealership. Below is what they've told me so far. I think the part that frightens me the most is the "This is where we need to START" line. :banghead: Yer toughts please. I know what the compression test is but what the hell is an upper engine decarb/clean?

Walter,

First thing first we need to put a battery in the vehicle, put fuel in the vehicle, perform an upper engine decarb and perform a compression test. The battery is $159 installed, upper engine clean w/compression test $259.95 and I'll put $20 of premium in the car. This is where we need to start, let me know.

and that's how stealerships work...

First, see if you can get someone you know to check the plugs and coils. They may be damaged. Your starter may be weak and faulty. Check that as well. While they're at it, they can pick up the battery and install it.
If you MUST use the stealership, then all this maintenance will cost you.

What the dealer is saying is that they want to do a compression test for you. In order to do that, they have to do a decarbonization (Is that a word??) of the engine (basically, they inject stuff into the intake manifold to clean out the carbon). Then they run the test.

Spray starter fluid into the intake. It will stink and blow smoke for several minutes.

If that dont do it then follow step one with checking plugs, coils, starter.

If not... decarbonize.

Compression...

etc...

Good luck and god speed.

Battery, use this with Coupon code BIG35 , select pick up in store, they will install it for you for free

wtf they mean upper engine clean, I assume they meant Zoom Zoom cleaning. pay me 50 bux I do it for your car (when you're back and goes NYC), come to our Thursday night meet and I'll do it for you on the spot, but takes at least an hour, keep that in mind.

Compression test I will soon have tester to test it, same one that Popular Japanese tuners like Knights Sports, Fujita Engineering, etc use. and I'm thinking of 25 bux each test. this will give you an idea what to expect at the stealership.at least its better than paying them an hour of labor (which is at least 100) for 15 minutes of work, and end up "oh you passed"

To be honest that isn't a bad quote for the work they want to do.

Is that from Lester Glen Mazda on 37? Or Weisleder in Brick? If it's Lester Glen I would avoid them . That used to be Toms River Mazda and I wasn't surprised when they went out of business. That location was closed for a while and Lester Glen purchased the rights and re-opened it. They don't have much history selling or working on RX-8's. Most likely your going to get a tech from their other lots that took the RX-8 certification.
If your dealing with Weisleder I have had good dealings with them and met their RX-8 tech and like him.

This is with Lester Glen. I actually bought the car there when it was Toms River Mazda(still got that god awful sticker on my bumber). This is prolly the last time I'll go with a dealer. I just didn't know any good rotary mechanics in the area and I'm super pressed for time. I'm coming home in 8 days now and I need my gal up and running. I can see already I'm gonna pay he price. They gave me q quote for a tune-up. $1000. Thanx fer the info.
