Dealer took my money, Can i get it back?
About a year ago i had an CEL on my 2006 rx8 along with a transmission issue. i took it and they covered the transmission under warranty, and they checked the CEL and said it was a small evap system leak. He showed me the car and he told me that it was probably caused by a hit on the gas tank and that a leak would be on the top. So i payed 100 bucks for the CEL check. He turned it off but it came back with in 2 weeks. I left it like that because he told me it was okay.
This year i had to renew my tags and i had to take care of that problem. I had to pay someone to check the whole evap system. The only thing they came up with, was gas cap needed to be replaced. I googled and found out that there had been a faulty gas cap issue on the rx8. Now its been over 2 months i passed the smog check and the CEL light has not came back up. What can i do? (if anything) |
nothing, lesson learned.
next time just go to an auto parts store and have them pull the code. then come hear and use our advanced search feature to search for possible causes for that CEL and save yourself a bunch of $$$ |
I have never heard anything about a faulty gas cap on the Rx8, I have heard of people not turning it until it click three times and getting a cell, FYI.

Join the club. The term "stealership" isn't just because they screwed someone over once... it happens daily.
|
its not just the rx8 ... gas caps are a dime a dozen. small evap leak. it's sad the vast majority of people out there don't even know that obd2 exists.

The replaced the gas cap for free but I did have to wait till the part came in. Do not remember if it was a TSB or what but the cap was replaced. |

Also for $100 you could have bought a nice obd2 scanner, I only paid $40 for the cheapest one harbor freight sold.

Why would anyone pay good money to another person to fix the issue, and yet leave without the issue being fixed?
Sorry guy, this one's entirely on you for throwing money away. BC. |
well he told me that the light was gonna come back up. but that it was okay. I waited a year because i needed to do a smog check. i Needed to fix the problem to pass the smog. He told me if i wanted it fixed i would have to replace the whole tank and told me it was gonna be 1800 to replace it to just leave it like that.

That's where a second opinion at that time would have pointed you in the right direction. Obviously, you know now that you can't trust anything that this shop tells you about your car, so you're never going to use them again, right?
At least they didn't pull $1800 out of your wallet, when all you needed was a $12 gas cap. And yet another reason why I, and so many others on here, are our own mechanics, and diagnosticians. BC. |
I stand corrected there is a recall for 2006 to 2007. I have a 2004 so I guest thats why I never got it!
I do hope you don't go to this dealer again, I hope this is not a mazda dealer at all. Now I maintain my car very good. It's a 2004 GT with only 68,000 miles as I don't drive it all the time, but if I had a problem with the car I would check in here first, google the problem second, check with friend and last I would go to the dealer!
