dealer decal ... doh!
 

Although I asked them not to do it during the car buying discussion. I forgot to actually look at the end of the night when driving the car out (slipped my mind at that point).

So, now I have a nice new Silver RX8 with a friggin ugly dealer advertisment on the back :mad: . How should I go about remove it so I don't mess up the paint ?

I'd take it back to them and tell them you asked to not have it on there, so can they please remove it. Alternatively you could suggest that you charge them a montly advertising fee...

Is it a sticker or once of those shiny plastic things?

Try a hair dryer and your fingernails on a sticker. I used a solvent called "oops" to get the resdual sticky stuff off. Followed by some wax.

On those plastic things, try some dental floss on it then deal with the sticky residue the same way.

Ask them nicely to remove it and remind them of your request. If they refuse, inform them of the poor ratings you are going to be giving them on the Mazda Buyer satisfaction survey. You will be surprised at how quickley they remove that ugly dealer advert.

Its one of those plastic things that says the Dealership name AND the location (its rather large). Part of it isn't even stuck on that well.

Yah just ask them to remove it or pay you 3000.00 for advertising their business;)

It really amazes me how many people have that dealer sticker on the back of their cars. Luckily they are fairly easy to remove with a hairdryer.

I called the service department at the dealer and they said they would take it off for me. They were actual very nice about it (over the phone). I just hope they are nice when I get there, and nice on the paint job :)

I guess the second best thing is to use a hairdryer (or the like) and some dental floss. What would be used to get off the sticky/glue junk they use (just in case there is some residue) ? Any ideas ?

WD-40. It'll take any sticky adhesive (even road tar) off without harming the paint.

My dealer used a sticker, and I guess you could say removing it was my "first mod". :) I used my fingernails and got it off.

You are lucky the dealers nowadays use plastic or sticker decals. Back in the day my parents purchased a 92 MPV and in the back was a frickin metal dealer logo, complete with rivits! :mad: It doesn't get anymore hardcore than that.

Crap! I just read another (old) thread about 4 rubber plugs for the car frame (under). Guess what, I have those in my glove box too. Looks like theres something else for them to do (I could do it, but since I am bringing it in anyways).

Wonder if they missed anything else ? At least it has the drivers side floor mat post/pin installed.

Good idea!! I hate those things. It's an insult, an "F" you directed at the buyer.

Fortunately, the plastic thing came off easily without any damage. I just peeled it off very, very slowly on a warm day. Otherwise, use a hairdryer.

Re: the rivited dealer badge. That's vandalism. I'd refuse to take it!

I peeled the sticker off right in front of my salesman and the sales manager and then handed it to them before I took the car.

no stickers on my car but the dealer used their license plate frames with advertising on it.

My Audi salesman actually said, "trust me, you don't want our license plate frames on it."

Its very easy to remove a dealer decal (Assuming its one of those metal looking ones and not an actual sticker):

First, if its not warm outside, heat the area with a hairdryer for 5 min or so.

Next, get your handy-dandy dental floss out, and slip it underneith and using a 'sawing' motion, cut behind it, the floss will break a few times.. just get more and keep going.

When done, take some WD-40 and a soft cloth and remove the residue. Was the area, wax, and your done.

take it back to the dealer...have them remove it for you.

I forgot to reply. The dealer removed the decal with no problems. No paint issues, no residue left over. They even asked me if I wanted other decals (Mazda,RX-8, logos) removed! Also got the "L" flash (my idle was a bit rough sometimes, no problems now). Dealer has been good so far (i was expecting much worse from previous car experience).

Good to hear you got taken care of. How do you know that you got the "L" flash? Is there a way to check that?

we place a little sticker under the hood. kind of like those oil change reminders that companies put on the inside windshield to remind drivers of their next oil change. it will say reflash modification number *********-L (**sorry I dont remmeber the first few numbers just the last -L)

Did the tap the brake thing (~20 times in 8 seconds with the key in the on position and engine off). The oil meter does its little dance. There's plenty of talk about it in other threads in the tech and discussion section. It didnt do the "L dance" before.
