(daytime running)?? lights flicker...

I am apologizing ahead of time because I am posting this question for my friend that actually has the rx8 but is not familiar with forums.

The lights that are flickering are the inner-most (towards the center of the vehicle) smaller lights in the headlight unit that seem to protrude past the low and high beam lights. She seems to think they are the daytime running lights but I am clueless.

I have searched thru the threads and have found that it may simply be a light bulb near the end of its life but then it rose another question....what is the bulb that I am replacing haha.

My initial thought was that it was a bad connection at the harness until I checked the harness and connections are clean and tight. I appreciate any help with what the light actually is (i.e. daytime light, aux light...) and if you think it is simply a bulb. The flickering is in both right and left units but the right seems to not work and turn on random and be solid then start to flicker.

Thanks for your help.

no daytime running light that i know of. and if it's flickering it's a bad connection somewhere.

It would be parking lights and they might be daytime running in canada but not sure, I have replaced the bulbs in mine more then once (the ones from rotaryfx.com go bad after not too long) just order parking lights from either that site or find some generic bulbs that will fit, its up to you,

is this a US model RX-8?
if so, they're not day time running lights, just aesthetic.

does she have the OEM bulbs in there or has she upgraded to LED (many people do this)
if it's flickering, it's most likely a bulb that's just approaching the end of it's life.

I appreciate all the help.

I'm sorry, yes it's an '04 US model and she has the OEM bulbs installed. Do you think maybe just get and led replacement and test that out?

Led looks better imo, oem is like pale yellowish, led's are bright and match the headlights better

jkd_rx8: I'd just replace both and see what happens, the bulbs are quite inexpensive
if you want a more uniform look, I'd suggest putting some LED's in there to match the HID headlamps better (assuming the vehicle has HID's)
