Crying because of some bad luck

Hello guys , it finally happened. I parked my car in my usual parking space at work. When I returned that night to go home, I noticed a note on my windshield wiper. I thought it was a parking ticket, eventhough I knew for sure that I didnt do anything to deserve it. When I took the note this is what it was written.
"" I'm sorry for smashing the front end of your car. While I was trying to get out, I scratched your car. Here is my Home phone number. Sorry Again!!!!!
This is a freaking 2 weeks old car!!!!! Took it to mazda and because the damage was to the lower front bumper , the estimate was 415.00$. Called the guy and he is going to pay for it. Its going to take 3-4 days, Bummer. I'm depressed eventhough the guy had the decency to write a note, but still: It hurts.

brothervoodoo 12-18-2003 03:53 PM

You are so lucky it was a stand-up guy that left a note. I wouldn't call that guy a moron...

madhaus 12-18-2003 03:57 PM

hey, don't cry about it, you're getting it fixed!!

our car had a shopping cart ding in the right door when it was 1 HOUR OLD! no note, just a ding.

since we've had it I have seriously scratched the paint with a bucket while washing it, scratched the air dam on the curb, scratched the right rear wheel on the curb, and took a rock in the windshield.

we have kids so I don't expect the car to be pristine forever.

the windshield has been replaced, the dings have been mostly buffed out, and I put some touch-up paint on the air dam.

all four tires were replaced at 3700 miles because of 2 nails and sidewall damage and extreme wear, feathering on the outside of the left front. must be my driving :)

bottom line: 1) don't sweat the little stuff. 2) it's all little stuff!!!

Thanks for sucking most of the bad luck away from the rest of us! :D

that is so unexpected that they left a note

sorry to hear about your car

Smoker 12-18-2003 05:34 PM

Consider yourself lucky that he left a note ....

1BADZ06 12-18-2003 05:55 PM

Your real lucky get it fixed and thank god he didnt ditch you with the 415$ bill. I had a guy do madjor damage to my vette and promis to payand never did. get money first.

WHealy 12-18-2003 06:10 PM

Yep ... what the others have said. Certianly not something i would wish on anyone, but at least you got a guy that was responsible for his actions.

RX8 fever 12-18-2003 06:11 PM

It was nice of him to write the note. He felt so guilty because he noticed that it was a new RX8 and by the shine he knew that the owner was going to be very upset . First thing I did was to call my wife and She told me that it was ok, that it is only a car and that I'm obsessed with RX8. Well, I worked hard for it. Always loved the rotaries and it is a reward for all my hard work through the years. I just couldnt believe that any of the cars that I owed before(All used ones) never got a scratch. I guess some other people have it worse with their car . I'm not whinning but, first I got dissapointed for the accident(Just 2 weeks out of the dealer) .
Thank you guys

SirLeNerd 12-18-2003 06:20 PM

Well it finally happened to me today as well. A nice long gash (7 inches long or so) over the passenger rear wheel! Don't even know how it got there (piss me off). The scratch is very deep and has black paint (or black rubber?) inside. Any tips on how to fix it up? I don't think this one will "buff" out nicely. Anybody in Calgary know who does touch up work?

YEAH no kidding huh?

I dont know how many DOOR dings I have, my door looks like a rocky road hehe

RX8 fever 12-18-2003 07:34 PM

Well I called him that because the accident was avoidable. The car was parked (Not Moving), so when he tried to get out of his parking spot, he turned too much of a narrow angle and scratched the front lower bumper. The parking space is very roomy, no need to take such angles. I know it was an accident but on this one , I believe that more attention on what you are doing while driving will keep you away from nonsense accidents like this one. Those kind of accident are expected from either women or very old drivers. Im very grateful that he left a note but, I believe it was a common sense avoidable accident.

Sorry to hear that Sir LeNerd. I know it hurts!!!

Don't you mean it was "avoidable"... oh, nice crack about old folks and women...

You my friend, are too cunning to be understood. Whatever, you should just count yourself fortunate, I'm outta this useless thread..

LOL sounds like what happend when i had my rsx it was demolished in the first 3 months in the front by some moron in the parking garage at my work.

a month later i was rear ended .

then my wonderful greddy exhaust and header started thumping underneath my car.

Then i was supposed to get a real Top Secret Front bumper and Type R rear and it took over 9 months and still didnt come (Note to self dont buy from GTP international anymore). Oh ya and they kept my 300 dollars deposit nice guys eh.

So i just sold my stuff and got the 8.

By the way...Dont sell your car tho hehe.

I think my buddy's sister takes the cake - her brand new Honda was hit in the rear by a runaway truck and shortened by about 2 feet, on her way home from the dealership!

XeRo 12-19-2003 08:06 AM

You are lucky...damn i feel your pain though...

here's something to cheer you up...

My grandmother had a heart attack and was in the hospital 6 years ago ( she's fine by the way...?senial? but fine)...and I went to see her at the hospital (in Birmingham, AL) meeting the rest of the family...well i regretfully parked in the parking deck since i couldn't find any other space outside...I was in the hospital for about 2 hours and when i walked back to my car the rear had been smashed in and the dude that did it took my carbon fiber SPOILER!!!....then funny thing later...after a week went by and I was getting the rear fixed...the police in B'ham called to report they found the guy that hit my car...i happened to park directly in front of a hidden parking deck camera that monitored for security and it showed exactly what had happened....IT WAS THE UNIFORM DELIVERY SERVICE DUDE!!!...he backed right into my rear end and got out to look at it ,saw that my spoiler had come loose, got back in his truck...got back out, grabbed my spoiler then jumped back in and took off...needless to say my insurance company sued him and ..that's how i paid for my engine swap and turbo!...heheheh....

f1 tech 12-19-2003 08:31 AM

sh!t happens, could be worst. time to get a new bumper!

Careful with the stereotypes there dude. You just lost ALL of your credibility (if you had any).

mikeb 12-19-2003 01:23 PM

f1 tech is your avatar a pic of you

Squidward 12-19-2003 01:44 PM

glad to hear there are still folks out there who have some moral decency. While he was a moron for being unable to drive his car correctly, you should thank him for his integrity. 99% of the time, people don't give a shit. I see it all the time in LA where I work.. people pull out hit another car and drive off as if nothing happened.

Efini 8 12-20-2003 04:41 AM

I got rear ended by some dumbass at my school at least I got her info. and she was cool to give me money. I got 2 little bumps on the black part of my rear bumper and I got $200 out of that. Hello Exhaust!

xXcfeboXx 12-21-2003 07:01 PM

yeah you think you got it bad!!!
i think im the first in the world to actually crack up my 8 in less then 2 weeks, in actuality two days more and it would have made two weeks. The cost to fix mines was upwards of $8,000
seriously don't sweat it!

this is what happens when a computer tech (mind you knowing only really how to fill gas and change tires) plays with buttons he has no clue about! ?dsc? ring a bell, anyways so im told it does make a diffrence?

Tire falls of no air bags deploy *only because i practicaly rolled into the post, road was a bit wet and i was turning roughly about 10 yards to impact, lost control upon the turn from a dead stop.

I got my first drifting lesson and failed.
lesson learned you ask how? don't over correcting a drift.
what can i say panic was a main factor.

shoot me

GeckoRx8Xtreme 12-21-2003 11:31 PM

Sorry to hear all those unlucky story....

Rx8 fever,

y dont u take the money and the opportunity to get a new aftermarket front bumper kit like Mazda speed's one?(or any other one that u like):D

skagen 12-22-2003 03:13 AM

Sorry to hear what happened. I'm so scared right now too. Had the car for a week and I'm already so paranoid of taking it to go christmas shopping. I'm sure you guys/gals know what that's like. But keep your chin up, the guy was very decent and 415 doesn't sound too bad a damage was done.

RX8 fever 12-22-2003 02:52 PM

Thank you guys. I just took the car to the Mazda Body shop. Its going to take at least 4 days. Its a bummer, but I didnt want to see the car like that any longer. I'm waiting for more pictures of front bumpers from different brands and I will probably make the switch if i like one of them. I didnt mean to insult anyone here. Sorry if I did. What I meant was that is usually people with poor or low degree of 3rd space orientation that have this kind of accident in which the targets are not moving,. Because I have 3 sisters , I can tell they are more prone to accidents. Of course is the fact that a lot of women drive better that guys, but that is not the usual. Another type is very old people because brain shrinks with age and they loose spatial orientation and that is scientifically proven.
Thank you all.
Happy Holidays to all.

Xerces 10-23-2004 11:01 AM

LOL. Apologizing and continuing to insult in the same paragraph. Priceless.

Everyone is entitled to have a bad day. I don't care what your ability for 3D spacial awareness is. It is more that people act responsibly when something like this happens rather than seek a cowardly way out. You are very fortunate in that someone with integrity hit you rather than a true moron.

I also find it entertaining that those of you who have received damage to your car and were upset over the fact got compensation and then decided to upgrade your cars either by upgrading the damaged part or ignoring it and upgrading something else. Its your perogative of course but why act so upset over it when you appear much happier afterwards?

bleh. I'm spewing on now. My apologies to the rest for my diatribe.

Jarred 10-23-2004 01:29 PM

most accidents are "avoidable" people make honest mistakes, and this guy took the responsibility for his mistake, something that I'm willing to bet 8 outta 10 people won't do.

So, he gets labeled as a "moron". Some people just make me sick.

Like Whoa 10-23-2004 01:54 PM

your lucky, if it was me i would've took off. call me a dickhead if you will but thats who i am

xSxxKxxYx 10-23-2004 02:31 PM

OMG... seriously... u r SOOO lucky...
just think of this way... that guy could've RUN off... and u'll be left with nothing but a damage car!!!!!
thank god!

Squidward 10-23-2004 02:46 PM

wth?... I've heard of late responses, but this is funny...

Talk about pulling a thread straight out of the grave.. The thread is almost a year old...

Titanium6 10-23-2004 02:50 PM

Consider this, I came back to my car and found that someone had keyed it. 2 weeks old. No note just a signature of a jealous jerk I guess.

Titanium6 10-23-2004 02:50 PM

Ok I dont look at dates. new to site had my car since March

Abracadabra 10-23-2004 03:38 PM

You are really lucky that the guy left a note...not to mention, with his real phone number! Almost restores my faith in humanity! I had the occasion to watch a female senior citizen (politically correct) swing wide into a parking space in Delray Beach Home Depot..hitting a brand new Infinity in the rear quater panel with such force that car actually rocked! As I watched transfixed, she backed out seemingly to straighten herself out to complete the park...but instead, continued to back out and take off! Too fast for me to get a plate number. Since purchasing my 8, I park as far out in a lot as possible...never vallet park (too easy for them to take a joy ride, and they do). I figure the extra excersise is worth any worries. Again...you are very fortunate to have come away so clean.

jtm0311 10-23-2004 03:55 PM

I think the moron in this story is the one who doesn't have a clue how lucky he is.

Don't cry. Your RX8 will be as good as new in a few days. Put a perfect car in an imperfect world and that's what you get.
