http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ca...ist=345#vdptop

does that person not know what they have??????

momo 06-03-2005 02:29 AM

Hmmmmmmm...something is just not adding up, a 2005 Shinka with 54 miles on the odo for $14K. Maybe its typo or maybe what that person wants down...who knows?

army_rx8 06-03-2005 03:18 AM

hehe maybe it has no engine .. drivetrain :p

rx8spiritR 06-03-2005 03:25 AM

it saids he live in San Francisco but his area code is not 415...
ummmm weired.

Go48 06-03-2005 03:27 AM

isnt san francisco 650??

newayz theres something that guy isnt saying...like it's stolen! or something along those lines cuz then how could he call it a convertible 2 dr car?

RotaryIT 06-03-2005 07:16 AM

Who cares....call find out and if its true, buy it.

This reminds me of one of those commercials where people talk about the fact that someone left the water running, but no turns it off. I'll check on this, because it very well may be someone that doesnt care about the money. I have seen this many times. I bought a 2004 Honda VFR 750 with 3000 miles on it for $1500. The guy was getting a divorce, and he didnt want his wife to get a bunch of money, so he sold everything for pennies. I wish I had the coin for his 2002 Porsche 911, which he offered to me for $20,000.

Worth asking....I sold the bike for $7000.

foxman 06-03-2005 08:44 AM

If it sounds too good to be true...

valpac 06-03-2005 09:04 AM

Just called em and left a msg on their machine. Probably have hundreds of them really. I dont expect a call back, cuz if this were a true ad, that car is long gone.

Tamas 06-03-2005 09:05 AM

Well, a black convertible  RX-8 with shinka pictures and 54 miles on autotrader for 14 grand... if this is not a scam or a stolen car, nothing is.
By the way, San Francisco's area code is 415. 650 is for the peninsula, down to Palo Alto or so. 843 it isn't - but that part wouldn't worry me because it might be some cell phone. But everything else is wrong.

Glyphon 06-03-2005 09:06 AM

yeah, i'd definately click on the Buyer's Fraud advice (bottom of the listing page) before giving over any money to this guy. something seems fishy about it.

and as an FYI, 843 is south carolina.

Go48 06-03-2005 09:10 AM

Notice there is no VIN indicated for the car. Hmmmmm!

VIN isn't a required field. Lots of individual sellers as well as dealers leave the VIN field blank, so that in and of itself doesn't mean anything...although, added up with all the other clues points to a potentially shady individual behind this particular listing. any one acting on this, becareful.

I've seen many posts like this when I was searching for a new car the past few months. At one point I saw a 2004 VW R32 for $10,000. I inquired about the car and got a long email that looks to be prewritten telling me a sob story about how she/he moved to germany because of financial problems and would be willing to ship the car over without any extra charges.
Also, there was another time when I saw a red rx8 for around $12000, with just 5k miles, I got the same reply when i inquired about it.... "I moved to (insert out of reach area) but need the money..." It was a post on carsdirect. I did a zip code search in my area and supposedly this car was suppose to be 25 miles from me, but according to the buyer's reply the car's located in florida.
I feel sorry for people who fall for it.

yup. those are classic fraud attempts that people try to pull on all the online listing sites.

there is a reverse senario of people from out of the area attempting to buy cars that is a fraud routine too.

sadly this seems to be another one.

Advance Fee Fraud.

Move along.

yeah, ive seen a cherry condition rx-7 listed for about 6k with the ad saying that it was in north carolina, yet it said that the car was good for the texas heat.......

the number ended up being an invalid one and the ad dissapeared within like 3 days of posting.

i just think more scams are being posted up lately, but it was bound to happen; started with ebay, and now autotrader...

th1rd3y3 06-03-2005 01:03 PM

*cough*scam*cough*

Outlaws eXtreme 06-03-2005 01:13 PM

Let's start posting a bunch of Porsche 911s for dirt cheap on Autotrader, mention it to a guy that is really selling it on Ebay and say.."Hey look, a bunch of people are selling it for cheap, knock down your price a bit to 20k and I'll buy it."

Maybe that's what the guy was trying to pull... making the Shinka lower.

Or, he could be bored and a disgruntled anti-RX8 guy.

jefferrari 06-03-2005 02:33 PM

well, I heard from my coworker that afriend of his ex-coworker (maybe not true at all) saw on newspaper that there was a Z3 for sale for $500. So he went there and asked the lady why she would sell the car.... and she said because her husband was cheating on her and she would sell the car just to piss him off LOL

maybe any of you live close enough, talk to the seller..... who knows what kind of suprise you will get....

Nigandahu 06-03-2005 06:10 PM

Ive heard that same story from 10 different people in 10 different regions of the contry for at least the last 10 years, switching up the car and exact amount.
