Crazy about my 2011 R3

Just wanted to tell everyone this is the best car I've ever owned. I'm 40 and have had lots of cars, and the excitement of driving this one never ends. Why is it that everyone wants to race at red lights though???

RX8Soldier 10-19-2011 09:13 PM

because, the car is just THAT nice ;)

post pics!

Id be crazy about it If I had a 2011 R3. Not that I don't love mine, But the Its simply beautiful.

KDispel 10-19-2011 09:37 PM

I enjoy baiting people into getting tagged by the fuzz at red lights near where I live :D

Welcome to the cult ;)

There's no going back now though, I hope you know, lol. The RX-8 is just so.... different. Everything else will seem like "just a car" from now on ;)

im with u, im am in love with my 10 R3, every morning i leave 30 mins early to get to work just to drive around (only live a few miles from work)

sjschutz 10-20-2011 09:08 AM

Glad you're enjoying it! MariesRX8 is right, no other car will be the same from now on. Once the RX-8 gets into you (or maybe it's the other way around...) there's no going back.

Roidz 10-20-2011 09:44 AM

I don't blame you.

Very recent purchaser of a black 2009 R3 here.

I now find myself grumbling a lot less when the wife sends me to do an errand that involves driving somewhere. I also look out of my building down to the parking lot, and immediately start thinking of excuses to MYSELF, as to why I need to go downstairs and drive somewhere. I've been getting snacks and drinks for me and a couple of co-workers from the nearby gas station almost every other afternoon since I got this car 3 weeks ago.

monchie 10-20-2011 11:31 PM

The rx8 is too fast and too furious...lol

dynamho 10-21-2011 09:34 AM

Enjoy enjoy enjoy! That's all I gotta say.
The power delivery is like, "I can't believe it's not butter".

23109VC 10-21-2011 09:58 PM

what did you pay for the RX8?

I"m thinking of getting another car... my budget is $25k selling price... that does NOT include tax, title, etc... basically more like 30k out the door is my limit...

could I find a new 2011 for that price?

I know I could get a used 2009 or 2010 with super low m iles in that range.. but if the dealers are dealing.. why not get a new one and be thefirst owner... :)

the rx8 is an amazing car. I owned two rx7s YEARS ago... I'm also your age.. i turn 40 next year.... i test drove an RX8 GT and it brouight back memories of my old RX7.. love the sound.. teh feel of the shifter... the endless revs... not the fastest car... but PILES OF FUN!

I also have an R3. I just got mine this past july brand new as a 2010 left over. I didn't want to guess the price so i just went back into my paperwork. The price of mine was $25,512.10. not including all the tax and fee stuff

Tim L 10-22-2011 11:09 AM

I paid $29,800 for my 2011 R3, not including tax. I also got the 60 months at 0% with no money down as that was Mazda's special back in August. Who can say no to 0%... And to get my R3, the dealer had to fly a sales guy from Chicago to Ohio as there were basically only a few left in the country.

On another note, I make my kids dust the dog hair off their clothes before they are allowed to get in. Anyone else "inspect" their passengers before boarding?

mgsrx8r3 10-22-2011 11:11 PM

rx8 r3 forever!

I couldn't agree more!
335i, 370z, z4, G37s, even StI, Evo, don't have the soul of this car; it is flat-out brilliant!!!
One of the best cars I have ever driven-
I love my 11 red R3.

23109VC 10-23-2011 11:48 AM

is the R3 a daily driver for most of you?

sounds like a fun way to get to work in the AM!!

Tim L 10-23-2011 06:43 PM

Mine is not a daily driver. While it could be, I'm too afraid of door dings and inconsiderate people with shoppings carts, etc. I take mine out once or twice per week and that seems to make it even more fun to drive. My daily is a Nissan Altima, about as polar opposite as you could get.

Anyone think the 2011 R3 will hold its value better than average? I saw a 1995 RX7 with 18,000 miles sell for $25,000 - that seems pretty good as I think that was the last year for the RX7?

Mine is a daily driver; I even take the kids to soccer practice, with booster seats in the back- they giggle incessantly when the revs get high!
No issues being a daily driver so far; was brilliant on the Tail of the Dragon as well.

I use mine as a daily driver but it will be put away for the winter. I have an old beat 4x4 for winter driving.

'95 RX-7 listed for nearly $50k, so 25k is still losing 50% of it's value.

S2 valuation will be interesting to watch over the years. If adding the extra OMP, and the other various design revisions work out reliability-wise, I think there could be some extra value built into them once some time has passed. But, for that to happen, a bigger cult following needs to develop.

From what I can see from the Mazda USA sales numbers, right around 5,000 S2s were sold from mid '08 through now. That's not a lot of cars.

So, if the 8 is truly the last of the rotaries, and the S2 ends up being uber-reliable, then there's a chance they could be more valuable than the earlier years.

I don't think it listed for $50k, that's a bit high no? I've always thought it was around $38k.

I agree, the s2 will hold it's value much better than the other 8s. Maybe even better than a low mileage shinka. I think that some of you with the last editions of the R3 Rx8s should keep them cherry.

I don't think the 8 will have as much success as a collectable as the FD Rx7 but I think it definitely will be a collectable. It was way to polarizing and as great as the 8 looks now, I wonder how it will stand the test of time. I think the R3 Rx8s will go down in price but not to the extent of the older 8s and then it will settle for a bit and start going up. I think once tuners figure out how to boost their Rennys reliably, the prices of 8s will start going up earlier.

I doubt it will be the last rotary.

godesshunter 10-24-2011 04:38 PM

Does anybody know the amount of 8s with the r3 package were sold?

My bad, you're right. I was discussing this with someone the other day, 50k is the inflation adjusted price in today's dollars. But sticker in the mid '90s was under 40k.
