Cost of original OEM windshield?

Got stuck behind a rock carrier truck and splat - got a nice star shaped crack damage to my windshield.

My comprehensive insurance policy for windshields is no deductible for a repair and a $500 for replacement. I'm going the repair route first to see if it acceptable. Picked a very reputable and well-rated place. Cross fingers.

Just in case, I need to replace. Has anyone replaced with an original OEM Mazda windshield?

And if so - how much was it? For the windshield and for labor?

I'll try to snap a picture and post it. Thanks!

I actually just priced this out a few weeks ago at Speedy Autoglass; they do quotes over the phone. Hell if I can find the notes I made but it came in at around $450 CAD with labor.

2004 RX-8.

Aren't the carriers legally responsible to secure there loads. If you have the name of company, plate number, time and location of incident you may be able to get them to cover the cost. Just a thought.

That's actually a good point. About 10 years ago I got stuck behind a truck and a 2x4 fell off of it and broke the windshield on my beater 1997 Toyota 4x4 (yes I ducked).

I managed to get the phone # off the truck's door, and after some haggling they agreed to pay for the replacement. I did go to the police however, and they expedited the process with the initial phone call. Luckily there was still a piece of timber in the windshield as proof.
