Cost for bumper painting?

Anybody know how much it would cost to havea rear bumper painted in Velocity Red?

Does Maaco do a good job nowadays? or if you've got some sugeests in Seattle lemme know.

BunnyGirl 05-02-2006 12:22 PM

I don't know for sure. I know when I was trying to get my dent fixed (on the hood) one solution was for a new hood and then repainting the front bumper and appearance package and side panels and hood and that would have been a little over $2000. I would imagine it to be a lot less for your bumper.

Maaco sucks. A guy I know had his Camaro painted there and about six months later the paint started peeling off.

What happened to your bumper?

hemanrulez 05-02-2006 12:28 PM

parked inside the garage at work yest (which I NEVER do) and didnt see a pillar when reversing.

1 month and 1 scratch and oh yeah I also curbed it this weekend while slightly tipsy. So my right rear wheel has a slight case of curb rash.

wonder what'll happen next

Your poor car!!! And I spent all last night worrying because my mom picked up and drove my car home from the body shop since I was at work and couldn't do it. So far I have avoided hitting anything, although almost flattened a suicidal black dog that ran out in front of me in the dark. I barely saw him at the last minute (coming around a little bit of a curve) and hit the brakes. If this car didn't have such good brakes I probably would have been needing that new front end they seemed to want to do.

Parking garages scare me, but that is what I have to use at work when I get my license plates on. I still prefer it over parking on the street, though. Too many nutjobs wandering around outside at the hospital to think it would be very safe there.

I was very proud of of myself, though. I drove up to the Seattle area a little over a week ago to drop something off and then went to the mall that was nearby. I drove and circled through the parking garage several times trying to find somewhere to park before I finally found a space on the outside strip next to the covered garage part. I managed to park without having to readjust numerous times and ended up centered in my space!!! I really suck at parking normally! :)

I had my front bumper repainted by Mazda. It cost ~$900 So I assume the back would cost about the same.

By Mazda???

You sureley mean a body shop at a Mazda dealership.

Dunno if my ding warrants a $900+$300 bumper

snizzle 05-02-2006 01:43 PM

I'm thinking about repainting soon because of paint chips but certainly not if it'll cost me $900.

x-ped 05-02-2006 01:45 PM

Usually down here in Cali they charge from $400-600 depending on the shop.

hemanrulez 05-02-2006 02:17 PM

Yeah so my bad luck continues. About 30 mins ago while driving to work on the onramp for 405 a stone comes and cracks my front windshield glass.

I'm seriously thinking all RX-8's are cursed. Maybe im just really pissed.

sssuperman82 05-02-2006 02:33 PM

that happened to me too on my trip from Georgia to Florida, but i clld my insurance and guy came to my work and put something in it and fix it, i thought they were going to replace it but i guess they didnt....

TownDrunk 05-02-2006 02:38 PM

When I bought my MS kit (from the dealership), they painted the front bumper L.Yellow for $300.

Before someone asks... no, you can't get the thing in L.Yellow from the factory anymore that's why it had to be painted.

Cool-Blue-Dad 05-02-2006 02:51 PM

I have one scuff the size of a quarter on my rear bumper. Scuffed clear down to bare plastic.

The body shop guy said, "well, we'll need to do a bit of plastic repair to smooth it all out, then sand the area, repaint and apply clear-coat..... It'll be about $265."

I said "Excuse me?!?!? Forget it!"

Geeze for $265 I'll apply a little touch-up paid and live with the blemish or put a reflective USAA sticker over the spot (USAA gives those out when you add a new car to your policy - they like you to paste them on the outer, lower corners of your bumper as a additional reflective rear-marker and free advertising for them).

dmorales 05-02-2006 03:13 PM

Yes it was a body shop at the Mazda Dealer. But on mine I forgot they had to replace the rotary accents and mazda emblem too. Also the replaced som of that plastic mesh in the front. So I guess that could have added a little to the price.

I do my own painting, order my paint through BUD's AUTO COLORS in Clute TX. and walah.....its a done deal, but to say it would cost 265.00 and say thats a rip off,you first have to understand the complexity of the work being done...Its easy for joe blow (consumer and car owner ) to raise hell any time that person is out a dime on anything and when it comes to painting its always TOO much....Listen, the good body guy is out to saticfy his customers but its always the whiney ass's looking for the best deals that should get whats owed to them ...Look, you search, you get in the know on what you want on the final results. thats why I turned my garage into a cheesy paint booth and learned to paint. anyways , I understand that not all can find time to venture into it but if your game and willing to fuck up a few times (cost of learning) then try it ....you may find out that you have the talent(stroke) :boink: thats all :)

Just bumping. I'm thinking of repainting or painting a new bumper. Any other estimates?

shazbot28 05-09-2007 02:45 PM

You might want to post on your region forum and ask there for recommended auto body shops. From there, just ask them for an estimate.

Nemesis8 05-09-2007 02:53 PM

How bad is the damage? Have a photo?

New Yorker 05-09-2007 07:19 PM

Prices vary widely depending on where you live, and the quality of the job. The same paint job costs way more in metropolitan NY or San Francisco than it does in, say, Moline, Illinois.

And I've found you definitely get what you pay for. You can probably have the rear bumper repainted for just a couple of hundred bucks, but the color might not match perfectly (in all different kinds of light), or it may start to fade or peel after a time. If you can afford it, go to a body shop with a really good reputation. They'll charge maybe twice as much as a bad place but, to me, that's a small price to pay to avoid hating the way your newly painted bumper looks every time you go to your car.

rddragoness 05-09-2007 07:35 PM

I agree with New Yorker, you get what you pay for so take it to a reputable shop. I was popped in the rear (bumper).....and they had to replace it... Total for everything was about 850.00 Parts were OEM and shop was recommended by my dealer. Just make sure its BLENDED!!!!!!!!
