coolant system
im new to this stuff
just wondering what kind of coolant do you guys use? and how do u guys use them? when i mean? |
You can use the Mazda OEM coolant, which you can purchase at the dealer.
There are a few others you can use (i believe not the orange one). You can mix your own coolant, the OEM one is 60 alcohol/40 water i believe? |

you cannot buy that somewhere like pepboyz, kragen, etc?
Some people say don't use orange colored coolant, which when mix with the one in your car will turn black, but other say it doesn't matter. |
I use prestone anti freeze
70% water 30% anti freeze 1 bottle of water wetter. |
Id search around & look in your manual as well... I know different regions use different mixes (i.e. 70/30 if it is very warm, 60/40 in cold areas)
I used prestone last time i re-filled mine. There is a DIY on this here somewhere Edit: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ht=coolant+DIY |

do you know what temp's you're running?

eva: that really is one of THE hardest questions to answer though as temperature can fluctuate quite dramatically based on ambient temperature and my particular driving style at the moment.
I will say this; if the outdoor temps are 70-85°, I'll usually cruise on the freeway at around 172°. If I get on the throttle, that can quickly get up to 200 but will settle back down after a while. I have upgraded my entire cooling system though so my results may not be typical. I currently have: - BHR Radiator - Mazmart Water Pump - Mazmart Thermostat - AccessPORT tuning by MM I see that you live in the I.E. so lately you're seeing 85 - 95°F temps? I would expect city driving temps to be in the 195 - 210° range for your car. (assuming stock cooling) Above 95° is when the OEM cooling system starts to struggle. I was out in Riverside last year (prior to upgrading my cooling system) and I was seeing 220°F if I got on the throttle. Keep in mind: if your stock temperature gauge starts moving, you are ALREADY heat soaked and should be very careful. (I believe that needle starts to move once you're at approx. 230°F :Eyecrazy: ) |
I want that oil temp gauge.

the light on my engine coolant system came up :(
and im having trouble if im going to take it to dealer or just buy a coolant? but idk which one to buy? i just found out this morning help? |
I use the pre-mixed (50/50) Prestone long duration. Or the GM Dextron stuff. Both are FL-22 compliant.
|
where do i get it?
|
its already mix?
or should i still add water? sorry im kind a new to this stuff |
If its 50/50 you dont have to mix it. That means 50% water, 50% antifreeze.
|
thanks..
but which one u prefer to use? |
Jedi how much was that gauge cluster of yours, and where do i get it?
|
I use the Prestone stuff. As long as its FL-22 Compliant, others should work too.

he's not online yet
|
so just put some on it on the coolant engine and thats it?

im so worried about this coolant system light that came up this morning to my 8 and i dont know what to do...lOL
funny weird huh?? |
It may be the sensor that's going out as well. A fairly common problem. You might go to fill and see that you are already full. Or you might top it off and the light doesnt go off. Then I would suspect its your sensor.
