can the coolant level sensor be cleaned (to stop the alarm) without taking everything to bits.

Yeah - I've pulled it all out and i'm 99% sure the problems with this stem from the float losing its floating capabilities . Nothing you can do to fix .

+1 just change with new tank, cause i've tried clean and changed the sensor :)
