Constant clicking or ticking noise when engine is running

Hi all,

I brought another RX8 recently because my first one had done too many miles and the issues were piling up.

I took a bit of gamble because I got it cheap, it was in a accident but the only damage was to the wings and doors and it's the same colour (BB) and has a much lower mileage .

I couldn't view it as the auction ended that day and it was 200 miles away. When I picked it up, I noticed there is a bit of a constant clicking or ticking noise when the engine is running. It seems to go up and down with revs. I changed the plugs and coils but it's still there. I don't think it's the SSV valve because I moved it with my finger in the video and it makes a different sound. My other RX8 makes a bit of click but not as noticeable.

I made a video, it doesn't seem to pick up the sound of the click well but you can seem to hear it more over to the right of the engine bay on the video. Does anyone know what this might be?

Couple of possibilities I can think of :

The EVAP solenoid just to right of alternator is known to tick when faulty .
The ignition leads when they track to earth

A mechanics stethoscope will help you find it in quick time.

Also, make sure that your spark plug wires are connected firmly and that the plugs are tightened to specs.

Very faint but it could be this...

2004-2007 RX-8 - RATTLE / CHATTER NOISE FROM INTAKE MANIFOLD

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit a rattle / chatter noise from the intake manifold at idle. Due to accumulated carbon on the secondary shutter valve (SSV), the clearance between the intake manifold and the SSV is narrowed causing intake air pulsation to easily transfer to the SSV, and a noise results. To correct the problem, the SSV actuator has been changed.Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

It says to replace the SSV but you can likely get away with removing it, cleaning with Zoom engine cleaner and reinstalling.. Part numbers you will need below.
