Considering an 8

Hi all

Finally got the finances to get an 8. This is the dreamcar for me an has been since 05. In between ive had a A3 2.0tQ which i really loved but i recently drove an rx8 and realised how mcuh i loved it.

So my thinking is this tho, having read on this site it seems alot of RX-8s are faulty? maybe i just got this wrong tho, but the point is i really hate working on cars and use repair shops when stuff are wrong. I dont want to have to turn in my car all the time for repairs. Is the RX-8 more prone to "injury" than a Audi or Mazda in general?

The milage and oil i couldnt care less about, since it is a sport car. But.... what are the things i should look specifically for to avoid when i buy an RX-8? I looked at one the other day and it didnt start very quick from a cold state, is this a problem? also the stereo didnt work, is this a normal problem?

Also i live in Sweden and snow is a fact ;) , as i read in the FAQ it shouldnt be a problem but should i use studded tires or normal winter ones?

Other than that i cant wait to own one ;)

It's a long read but only the beginning in what you need to learn before buying one. I'm about to buy a used one myself so I can't really answer your more specific questions, but the link above is a terrific starting point.

Besides just that link though, you'll have to search around on this forum and elsewhere to get the answers for your other questions.

Good luck!

If you hate working on cars and just bring it to a repair shop when things go wrong then the '8 will probably become an expensive asset. It's a great car to own, but it takes a special type of person to truly put the work into it to properly care for it. Make sure you understand this before buying.

Read the link, but it seemed scary for me lol. the thing i dont like to deal with is the replacing parts stuff, sure headlights etc i can change, but the more advanced technical stuff i just dont understand ;)

If it's a problem for you, then don't get it, it's that simple. RX8's are prone to issues like a weak compression, flooding, hard start when cold or hot, and some other issues as well. The only way you could make it better is from doing the scheduled and preventive maintenance. Take care of the car, and the car will take care of you. Good luck whichever route you choose.
