Confused-Worried

Hey guys,

I've had my rx-8 for about 30k miles and I have loved the car. I do have history with this car as I got the engine replaced under warranty around 40k miles. I had to take this car in 3 different times for them to do a compression test. First it was the battery, then the alternator, then it was the engine compression they told me. Then after I got the first engine in there, they told me your not going to believe this, but that new engine we got had bad compression as well. Well they got a another engine shipped in and they said it gave them no problems. 20,000 miles later and I'm here..Is the following problem another engine problem or is this something else?

I am approaching 60k miles and yesterday when driving I noticed that my gas pedal wasn't letting me get the same amount of power that I usually get. I can't just rev it and go when driving, it's like it doesn't have the same amount of power behind it. I can park it and rev it, but not when driving. What gives? I would really appreciate some input from you guys.

start checking the coils, plugs and wires. Do you know when they were last changed out?

rodjonathan 11-11-2009 09:35 AM

sounds like your coils or plugs might be bad id start there like bigbacon said

No, I don't ever remember having them changed out.

I really don't know how to change them out to be honest.

Should I take it to my local dealer?

It's very easy to change your own coils and 'plugs. A dealership will charge you a small fortune... because they can.

I was looking up spark plugs for my rx-8 and I stumbled across these. Which one is better?

Also, could someone point me to a site where coils are sold? I don't mind paying a little extra cash, if there are some out there are better then the others let me know.

One more thing, everyone says change your wires as well. What wires and where do you get these?

Forgive me for being a noob, but we're talking about ignition coils right?

CarAndDriver 11-11-2009 11:33 AM

Yep ignition coils. Make sure you don't buy them from dealer. You can get them cheaper elsewhere. People swear by the coils sold by BHR/Black Halo Racing.

This what you're talking about?

CarAndDriver 11-11-2009 11:55 AM

^ Yes. Quite a lot of fans of BHR fans on here. The BHR guys are frequent posters and specialize in 8 products.

I'm planning on buying their SPEC lighter weight clutch kit from them in the near future.

If you do a search on BHR ignition or coils, you'll probably find some threads.

But of course, you posted an excellent coil DIY Dozer!
