Compression test...
 

Just a small update for everyone. Sometime down the road dealers will not be doing compression tests. They are setting up a stand for us to be doing them in our recieving department. How they will be handling this in terms of figuring out if the engine is bad prior to us I dont know. They said at work its due to dealerships "costs" in doing them......personally I think someone is complaining about the 5 mins it takes to run the tests. In the end one day if you request a compression test and they say they dont do them, they might not be doing them anymore but for now they still do. Just a heads up.

I actually already ran into this at a local authorized dealer. Made an appointment to have one done. Took the car in. Later in the day the service rep called asking why I wanted it. I stated "I just do". He then went into they do not have the tools needed to perform it. They then kept my car four days running computer diagnostics and other tests.

I call another dealer locally and they stated it would not be an issue. While on the phone I had the service rep ask the master mechanic. SR got back on the line and stated the mechanic verified they could run one.

I had one done but they said they could not get the rpms high enough. So of course due to the 217rpm turn over my numbers read in the low 7s. Maybe one day I get an accurate reading

Well aparently this all comes down to dealerships coming up with wrong #'s or not bothering giving us the data. Half of the dealers dont give us the info or have #'s that make no sense. Some will still do them though. On a small note we are getting a shipment of 3rd gen brand new rx7 motors that they built for us in japan, we will be doing a few of those also now :)

Man I would love to have an FD with a brand new engine !

Just had my 8 in the dealership for a bad miss. They did a compression test. The front rotor was at 4.8 or 4.9, so they are going to replace the motor. Hope to get it back before the weekend.

yeah that is sort of done so if somebody goes in with loss of power etc and they think it's the motor they still wont' do one or just if someone walks in and says "I want a compression test"

My car has been down for 3 1/2 weeks. The replacement engine arrived yesterday. It should be completed tomorrow.

It more then likely will be about three weeks.....

how much does a dealer compression test run anyways?

Usually, they charge you at LEAST an hour of labor.

I just had mine done, I paid for the test. the results came out to be 7.1-7.2 on Rotor #1 @ 289 rpm. its at the "border line". still pass, but I expect my motor to "fail" within a few thousand miles. sucks :(

I had my compression done by a master mechanic using the Mazda comp tool and had 6.7@240rpm in #1 rotor. In #2 it was 8.2@245rpm. Showed it to my local Mazda dealer and ask for a compression test @ $133. They said if it was low they would run the de-carb procedure "TSB". They said there readings were #1 rotor 8.4(no rpm's given) #2 was 8.8 and it did not need de-carb. My friend master mech said "thats fishy" cause he ran it twice. We all felt Mazda ran the de-carb and just would not admit it was needed. It does feel a little better and now I can run reg 87 gas which I could not before without detonation. How long will this last, only time will tell and I still have three years left on the 8yr-100K warranty.

The problem is that, they already did the decarb thing on my motor about a month something ago. so that shouldn't be an issue.

7.1@ 288 rpm kind means around 6.7-9 @ 250 rpm. and 6.5 = failed motor.

cost me 99 + tax to do the compression test.

My motor has this "low idle" issue for a while already(AC on max + slow traffic/red light = rpm sometimes dips around 500 rpm then pop back up)

and over the past 5 days my car has stalled the total of "4" times when Im at slow traffic or red light. it just died on its own. one time I restarted it and I just watch the RPM to go down and dead again.

Im going to drive as it is for maybe another 2 weeks or so then Im gonna go in and have them test it again. this is bs, consider the amount of maintenance I did to my car.

old Mazda flash really screwed things up, after so many years damage is already done and no new flash will fix it.

Now I am just going to wait for it to die ...

I still don't have my car from the engine replacement and its been a month today, well sort of. I got it back last week and the tech didnt put the brake caliper on right and the brake caliper fell off and broke my brand new konig rim and made it so i couldn't brake. They had to order me a new rim and it still hasn't come in yet.

Yeah I honestly dont know where the "borderline" is for the motors coming in, we cant send any out below 8.0 compression or with a gap of 1.0 between the front/rear(ie front being 8.0 and rear is 9.1 would be a failed motor.

This is F**King stupid. Way to go Mazda! so how do you or any Mazda dealer(s) know if your Engine just tooks a shit one day? Lets say you take your car in due to; "loss of power" right, How long is your car going to sit there till they know WTF is wrong with it. Wow...
Great, Now I'm going to buy the Computer from Mazdatrix and do test out of my Garage for $100.00 a pop. Should have that thing paied off in about a month or two :lol:

Q:A: #4, #3 had low compression on one lobe and would quit at idle after warmed up. #2 had a coolant leak into the rear rotor. #1 at first wouldn't start when warm, then the exhaust got louder. No noticeable loss of power.

At least Mazda warrantied yours.............

First of all, I'm not FI. They first requested a log of all my oil changes. They were done at the dealership w/last change 5 mo. & 4500 miles ago. Second they were concerned about my MS Lightweight Flywheel. Nothing more was said about that (and they shouldn't have to begin with). In all, it took a week and a half before they approved the engine replacement under warranty. Another 2 weeks to get an engine. No free loaner car during this period. The car is outside of the original warranty period. I should have the car back today. They had the old engine out yesterday afternoon.
