Complimentary heated floors/cup holders?

I was just wondering what you guys do to alleviate the heat that is eminating from the front floors. I know the car is a sauna on wheels, and I knew this when I bought the car. But I live here in CA where the weather is random, i.e. 95 degree weather in November. What I have done is open the air vents and just have the thermostat set on the coldest setting, and basically have all the vents point down to cool the air on the floor. I can't imagine how it will be during the summer. Also, I know they placed heat shields on under the cup holders, or so that's what I read somewhere on this forum. But when exactly did they start putting them on? And did they play any other heat shields anywhere else for that matter? BTW my build date is 02/06.

thanx.
kalix- just a new 8 owner wanting to learn more about his car.

it is winter time. the heated floors are good.
The cupholders do get to me though. i freeze my drinks at night so they will make it more than 10 minutes. But then you have a condensation problem to deal with.
But for $0.99 you can get one of those cup holder coolies.

My 8's build date is March '06. I've had no problem with the floor or the cup holders heating up. AC was good (even set to outside air) on the 100 degree days we had this past summer.

Just another one of the 8's little "perks".

I have an 06 in alabama where the summers get above 100 degrees and I have never had heat come from my floor, trunk, or cupholders. The heat problems were sopose to be fixed in the 05/06 models.

FE9000 11-07-2006 10:12 PM

Really? Fixed for 05/06 models? I had an 05 and now an 06. Both have lots of heat from the floor and cup holders. My built date is 02/06

Sure, rub it in ;)

I don't really do anything for the extra heat. I've tried different mixtues of windows, vents, ac, etc. The best thing is just a nice cool day. I've gotten used to it, but sometimes a passenger will be caught be surprise when it's 70 degrees outside, and I need to turn the AC on so they're comfortable.

I've seen the cup warmer mod, and I might add that mod when I get and install the AFE Shifter, but for now... I just put my drinks in the back cup holder (since it's more out of the way anyhow).

Didn't Mazda have a TSB out that will install heatshield onto the car, which in turns help lower the temp? I hated sitting in traffic with the RX-8, it gets hot!!!

Quit your job and move to somewhere cool. Then call your boss and tell him to give me a job so I can move back to LA.

I'm not gonna worry about cooling 'til spring. :)

I have on 07 and sometimes the holders get warm and sometimes they don't, it's wierd. Thankfully, that A/C works great and I'm in South florida. No problems so far....

I have an 04 and have never really encountered any of these problems. The cupholders have gotten a little warm sometimes, but that is only when I run the car hard.

Heh, condensation has already caused me to lose one those little foam circle dealies that sit at the bottom of the cupholders. It stuck to the bottom of my cup without me noticing and I either dropping it in the middle of a parking lot or threw it away with the cup. Oh well, it wasn't doing much besides being an annoyance and falling it my lap when it sticks to cans anyways.

my cupholder/trunk heat problem went away after i installed my racing beat cat-back. :D:

there is a DIY for insulating the center console ... search is your friend ;)

kalix 11-11-2006 05:02 PM

does catback actually help?

Will a racing beat catback or any modded exhaust system actually help dissipate the heat? How about a Mazdaspeed Exhaust?

KraZy K 02 11-11-2006 06:55 PM

I feel your pain. 110 degree summers suck and when you can wear shorts in November... you know something is wrong. lol My cup holders do get very hot sometimes. I just don't use the front ones, I use the back cup holders. Just as good. Besides they get in the way when I'm shifting anyway. Maybe I'll look into installing a racing beat cat-back.

I've heard most cat backs are better for heat issues than the OEM. Seriously, I have NO heat issues inthe trunk at all. The cupholders do get hot if I have the ipod in there with the console lid closed, but there is a DIY for that.

Wait a minute...those are cup holders? The salesman told me those were the experiemental "Hot Pocket" warmers. Mmmmmm hot-pockets....
