Complete Debadge?

A little background:

Saturday I came through an unexpected rain/hail/debris storm, that has left 3/4 of my car in need of a new paint job, from a preliminary estimate. One thing that was Damaged was the B'Pillar that has the shinka logo on it, and the other one needs replacing because of a bad install from when I had the passenger door skins replaced. I am having my trunk debadged, since they have to pull the emblems to paint the trunk, and I have a new kit coming which will eliminate the Mazda emblems on the front.

So...do I replace with Shinka...Rx8...or plain B-Pillars...I am having Shinka Ghosted in the hood as well....

Opinions please..

I'd like to see pics after the Shinka is Ghosted in the hood.

when i powder coat the wheels black, i will debadge as well. Do any other them have the posts that go into the panels? or are they all stuck on?

Just a heads up about debadging. The center mazda emblem holes will have to be filled and painted, if you weren't aware. Thats why I'm sort of taking advantage of the insurance thing to get it done.

By B-pillars I'm talking about the wide black shiny pieces that are in between the doors. Usually they will say rx8 or Shinka in my case. As far as I know they are stuck on, and they are a PITA to get right. The passenger side has little thumb indents in it where someone tried to take it off and realign it after it had been put on. The driver's side a "debris' chip deep enough to get a thumbnail into.

I would put new shinka b-pillars on. I thnk they look great. Taking them off to me would ruin the whole thing about having a real shinka model.

On my car I put real carbon fiber b-pillers that stick on. I'm assuming it's the same with the shinka's. What I did to get it right was I peeled the top just enough so I could line up the top where I wanted it. Once you get the top lined up, the rest should fit fine. I then grabbed the paper backing and peeled it down slowly and as I went, I would flatten the piller with a micro fiber rag in my hand. Worked pretty well for me and they laid nice. Hope you can understand my lack of better terms to describe this....;) GL

True, I didn't think about the fact there are a few wanna bee's out there, so I'll replace the b-pillars with Shinka ones. That is after all a signature of the car.

Thanks for the tip. I may just print this and take it to my body man.;) Never hurts to have expert instructions!

Look between the front and rear door windows.....notice the shiny black rectanglular pieces? If you look closely at the bottom of those you'll see something that looks like its written on them. On most 8's it says rx8...on mine it says shinka, which was simply an edition made with different interior and only on certain colors. You can buy these at rx8strakes.com I believe, or mazdaparts.com. OEM they run about 150.00 and only come in sets.

O5rex, I can tell when I'm sleepy, and or have just woke up and get on here and post...lol

your post was easily understood, np.

be baller and get something custom yet humble sprayed in the B-pillar :)

05rex8 08-06-2008 11:12 PM

actually all others do not say rx8 on them, thats what makes the shinka special, its shiny and it has super cool writing on it :lol2:

Ya know something I just realized you were talking about the rear emblems on the trunk....to answer your question correctly this time.....lol

Only the Mazda emblem in the center has holes drilled that will have to be filled. The others are just stuck on with 3M tape I think, or some sort of glue. I think there's a thread here somewhere that tells you how to get the glue off...it's not a big deal, just takes some elbow grease.

I'm sorry..When you mentioned posts, and panels I thought you were talking about the B pillars..I hope I didn't confuse you too badly...:banghead:

Paul, I had thought about plain ones, and having "kei-rui ( or something like that) sprayed on them. Its japanese for Red dragon! ;)

Tag says RDDRAGN now.....have thought about changing it as well. I don't know if I will though. It's sort of my trademark.

Actually, all badges except the "Rx-8" have pegs in them. The Rx-8 badge can be taken off with just a hairdryer, floss, and some goo-be-gone stuff. Everything else will leave some holes :(

rddragoness 08-07-2008 09:41 AM

Thanks KoDeD. I was Misinformed! Glad to know that considering that part of the labor will be coming out of my pocket on the fix.

KoDeD 08-07-2008 09:57 AM

No problem, I found this out b/c I was condidering taking off all the badges except the rx8 one until I heard that it was the only easy one. The rest require some weld/fill/paint.. But I love the look of the debadged 8! You'll have to post some pics once you get repainted and debadged.
