Cold weather and wash frequency...

hi all

just bored at work and wondering the habits (and how often)some of you detail your car in the freezing ass winter. Granted I'm in texas and it only gets to the 20's 30's here lately but thats ASS cold to me.

My car is super ass filthy due to the snow and ice and crap. I need to wash it but i refuse to take it to a quickie place and I refuse to pay some crazy amount to have someone else do it. (i know they would fuck something up)

Smoker 12-04-2006 11:38 AM

Planning to wash its ass every once or twice ass weeks to keep the salt off the paint's ass. Anything longer than 4 dirty ass weeks, the crappy ass salt will eat its ass through the paint. Then we really got an ass of a problem.

Mazdaspeed RX8 ver2 12-04-2006 11:41 AM

that was a lot of ass'ing

I live in Pittsburgh PA and still wash my car once or twice a week throughout winter. (Dont think I'll be driving the 8 in the snow, but have had other cars in the past). I just get bundled up in clothes, go outside in the driveway and use hot water. No way my cars are getting brushed at the gas station or from another car wash.

Haha, we've got a serious ass ass problem in this thread!

Mazdaspeed RX8 ver2 12-04-2006 11:54 AM

an ass ass here, an ass ass there, here an ass there an ass, everywhere an ass ass...

You TX people are woosies. I remember living there one winter. It was in the 50s and I had a shorts and a sweatshirt on. There were people wearing parkas looking at me like I had 3 heads.

I take mine to a touchless wash or a soft cloth wash.

mdw1000 12-04-2006 12:00 PM

Ass times infinity.

toxin440 12-04-2006 12:01 PM

heh yeah - we are wusses when it comes to cold weather. I'm used to 90's and 100s :)

Its not bad bundling up its just my hands and face aalways feel like its going to fall off

Raptor2k 12-04-2006 12:02 PM

I haven't washed my car in about a week, it's dirty, and it's getting to me. I'm just going to get it done sometime soon with some daylight so I can get some sun, and just deal with the cold water. Then Z-8 any water spots.

Mazdaspeed RX8 ver2 12-04-2006 12:03 PM

i rather be extremely cold than extremely hot though, once your hot, you can be naked and still be hot, once your cold, just pile on the clothes.

Raptor2k 12-04-2006 12:07 PM

Sure...as long as hot females are naked when they're extremely hot?

Mazdaspeed RX8 ver2 12-04-2006 12:12 PM

i'll take that, naked females on a hot day, with hoses... i'll take that as a plus for hot days.

I'm with him. I always wear shorts, sandals, and a "maybe" a long sleeved shirt. (if it's actually kinda nippy)People just stare at me in awe.

i usually do a major detailing of my 8 around the 2nd week of november. Being in chicago, thats roughly when it gets cold and snow starts falling. I have a jeep as my daily driver for the winter and take out the 8 when its nice outside and no snow. If it gets dirty during that time i'll just run it through the car wash and it stays pretty nice until spring

shakRpahX8 12-04-2006 01:05 PM

people can't speak without ass these days now or wat

VRZOOMZOOM 12-04-2006 01:11 PM

I usually wash above freezing temps 32F.....Usually 2x a month depending on the weather and temp. If it snows....i usually wait 3-5 days until all the snow, salt, sand clears up a little bit before washing the car...less crap kicking up on freshly washed paint. I'm usually the first one out there hosing off and washing a car in the winter. If i can't get to washing the car for whatever reason, the car gets sprayed with water esp under the wheel wells to get rid of excess sand, salt, etc.

CTrx8 12-04-2006 03:07 PM

during the winter i go to a touchless car wash to get the salt and sand off of the car. this way i can still get it clean but it just uses the water jets and never touches the car to scratch the paint.

I live in Louisville, KY so winter is "usually" not too bad ... although, it was 15 degrees with a wind chill of 6 this morning.

I usually just wait until the temperature is warmer and take it to a good touchless place. No way I would let one of those places with the brushes or soft cloths near the car.

During the winter months I will check the weather forecast and look for days that are "warmer" than others. I will also look for several sunny days in a row.

volk 12-05-2006 08:35 AM

wow, just thinking aout washing my 8 and freezing my ass off just makes me want to keep my ass inside curled up on the ass-couch wrapped in my ass-blanket and keep my ass out of the freezing-ass cold weather.

My 8's ass is pretty clean since I keep an ass-cover on it when I am not driving it's red-ass.
