Cobb accessport, codes and inspections

Ok so Im getting a P2004 code. My inspection has been overdue. My mechanic is super busy. I was thinking of buying a accessport already but will they delete the code and will it delete so when i go to get it inspected it wont show up? In my county I cant have ANY codes at all.

My mechanic says that it could be a solenoid for the ssv. But wont be able to check it till 1-2 weeks from now. I need the car inspected asap.

Ill rent one just so I can get it inspected.

The code would have to be turned off in the tuning software. Race or pro tuner. Try running some seafoam through the ports in the intake mani to free up the ssv. Also some people have good luck running the hell out if it to free it up. I'd personally try seafoam.

So it can be done?

The car drives fine so not sure if its the ssv itself. Ill see if I can search the seafoam method. How would you get the seafoam in the manifold? I do redline 3-4 times a week. Maybe Ill run it harder.

It's possible yes. There are 2 ports on the intake manifold on the passenger side with 2 rubber caps. Let the car run and have a vacuum line hooked to the port and let it suck a SMALL amount in at a time. Do this for each port. Best way is to let it suck a decent amount in then let it sit for a few hours. Then start it back up. It will be a smoke screen but might help. Just be very careful to not suck too much liquid into "hydro lock" it.

Hi, I was thinking about doing this in a few weeks after I install a midpipe. Can you please specify 'small', decent

Hi, I was thinking about doing this in a few weeks after I install a midpipe. Can you please specify 'small', 'decent', & 'not too much' amounts? I've seen plenty of posts about Seafoaming, but I don't recall anyone saying how much. Is it possible to use too much & mess something up if it's not really needed? Thank you for any input. Btw, I have a yellow 04 GT with 24k miles.

The best I can explain it is enough that it gets sucked in as a "mist" not a "liquid" you don't want liquid seafoam being sucked into the combustion chamber. Same as not sucking water in through a CAI. Just let it suck the seafoam in for a couple seconds at a time. Don't just let the hose in the can and pull it all in. It's harder to mess up than you think.

You can't really use too much. I'd say half a ca would be more than enough to suck I through the ports. There is a DIY somewhere that was posted years ago. Try searching it and it should have very detailed step by step details. I dont want to double post the DIY.

Thanks a lot. I searched some, but saw different methods. I was looking at more recent posts and didn't think to go back to years past. Appreciate the help. Stoopid winter weather is really bugging me.

Yeah seems like years ago there were more "informative" posts. There is definitely a good DIY. I'LL try to find it.

Not a problem. I know those early mornings all too well also.

Read my thread here before seafoaming: https://www.rx8club.com/tech-garage-...r-pics-241867/

Only a couple pages, and has several different methods and their results.

For the engine internals, I'd recommend distilled water while the engine is running, through both ports at the same time. Oil change after. If you want to just clean the ssv, i'd use carb cleaner from a can on the valving itself.

Novoken 03-19-2013 08:13 AM

You mean take out the ssv and clean it with carb cleaner? Can it be the solenoid trowing this cell?

So the cobb route is has it been proven? And how hard is it to do?

Yes, the COBB can block CEL codes. I don't know specifically, but I imagine any CEL could be blocked. The SSV isn't one I'd recommend blocking, though I understand you would only need it temporarily.

Removing the SSV is difficult at best, but with some work you can clean it while it's still installed. The cleaning fluid will wash into the engine when you crank it over, so expect some difficulty starting and smoke from the tailpipe till it burns off.

04RX8man 03-19-2013 10:46 AM

Yes any code and be "blocked" but I'm not positive if you can do it in race tuner or Pro tuner. I have only ever done it on pro tuner. Just so we're clear it MUST be done with a laptop and the actual software. Not just on the handheld device you keep in the car. there is no way to do it without getting into the actual map and turning the codes off. Then you will have to save the map on the AP and then reflash.
