Clutch Pedal Assembly Warranty question
 

So I have my letter for the clutch pedal, I called dealership in Humble and spoke to Nathan who informed me that if they could not find anything, that I would be charged $97 service fee. Now the bracket is fine, HOWEVER, after a long day of traffic and driving around Houston, it does start squeaking. From my searching around on here, that is a symptom of possible future breakage. Nathan advised that if its "just squeaking," then its not a problem and I should wait till it becomes a problem.

I found that logic to be quite dumb.

Now my question is, I'm at 97,XXX miles and lets say that somethings happens at 1XX,XXX miles, am I still covered?

Should I go to another dealer? They've treated me well in the past with the MSP recall.

go back with the letter in hand... and tell them to call Mazda North America

drive there, kick the pedal sideways in the parking lot, get a new one.

Call this time with a more assertive tone. Tell them that you know the pedals under warranty, you know one of the symptoms is a squeaky pedal and you would like to know how long it will take them to get it replaced. Don't ask them how you would go about doing it, tell them you are short on time and want to know how long it will take them to get the work done.

Dont leave them with the ability to say if or will they do it.

Well, I'm not saying that it isn't stupid.........but if you read the letter, I believe it does clearly state that it must be broken in order to get replaced free. Guess they don't want to do any preventative maintenance

On certain 2004-2009 R X-8 vehicles, it is possible that the clutch pedal bracket may have a crack, causing an abnormal noise.
lf the clutch pedal continues to be operated with this condition the clutch pedal bracket may break, changing the disengagement point of the clutch and possibly preventing the shifting of gears.
lf your RX-8 experiences this symptom, please make an appointment with a Mazda dealer to have the vehicle inspected.
lf the clutch and/or shifting problem is due to the broken clutch pedal bracket, your dealer will replace the clutch pedal assembly free of charge, during the terms of this warranty extension program.
lf your vehicle is functioning normally, there is no need to contact your dealer.
We suggest keeping this letter with the vehicle's warranty information booklet for future reference.

just do what others said, go to the parking lot, give your pedal a nice side kick, if one kick is not enough, give it a few.

this pedal is junk anyway.

its just a weld that breaks..a squeaking clutch pedal can be cause by metal to metal contact, thus indicating a possibly weak or splitting weld.. i would inspect the clutch pedal before giving it a heafty kick..you may be able to wiggle it loose and cause the rest of it to give. i do not like Mazda's dealers pig headed attitude.. i have not had great dealings with my dealer either..

Yes - definitely look at it before vandalizing it. A failing bracket is not the only reason for a squeak. See posts 1223 and 1225 in the giant "WOOOO..." thread for the others, and their symptoms.

My clutch squeaks once in a while. And as some of you have seen in my other thread, i provided pics of my brackets and theyre perfectly fine. Now last week i went to mazda for a servicing, and i talked to my mechanic about this isssue (the squeaks). I made sure i didnt mention the warranty thing just to see what he says first (cause if i mentioned it, he probably would deny that anything was wrong). But he said its normal and my brackets are fine. He said hell add some lubricant and now it works perfect without any squeaks.

However my engagement point has moved slightly, but that would probably be due to me riding the clutch since this is my first manual car :(

Do you have a 2004-2007 model? The problem might be the "clutch cut switch". Here's the TSB:

I have an 05' and my VIN does fall under that TSB. Shall I just print it out and take it to the dealer and expect them to fix it for free?

Or shall I just use the SSP letter that we got int he mail and tell them to inspect it?

a TSB is not a recall or a warranty item. Its a Technical Service Bulletin to help the Techs diagnose a problem faster. Don't expect a TSB item to be free. A recall item is free.

TSB is not a recall. but it might/might not be a warranty item.

this clutch bracket issue however IS a warranty item.

TSBs that can be warranty items generally state how many hours Mazda will reimburse the dealer for the fix, and usually have a statement about related items for which they will not reimburse.

As far as kicking the pedal to get it replaced... The failure mode that Mazda will look for consists of cracks that they think are caused by improper installation. I'd be impressed if they covered one that had no cracks but was bent sideways.

Have you ever seen one fail? they bend sideways. Anyways the techs don't care really. They just do whatever. The real question may be: How did you get it here like that?

For those who had their clutch pedal assembly replaced, were there any warning signs that the pedal was not right? Or did it just suddenly break one day?

Just the pictures that people have posted. If kicking it sideways looks enough like that, then it'll pass. If it's cracked but not yet broken off, then a kick ought to finish it off. I would not kick one just because it's squeaking...there are other reasons for a squeak.

There are posts from people who have gotten home and/or to a dealer with a broken bracket. They should turn up in a search of the bracket threads.
