clutch

lets say your sitting at a stoplight for a minute and you hold the clutch down, will this cause it to wear quicker than disengaging it

Yes. Disengage when you plan to stop for so long. One minute is long...

It doesn't wear the disk out it puts pressure on the pressure plate and throw-out bearing to sit there and hold the disk off the flywheel. Basically you are making the pressure plate and throw-out bearing do work when it does need to.

Just put it in neutral. :)

there's a reason why most people also replace pressure plate and throwout bearing at same time when replacing clutch disk ;)

Now let me dissent.

It is my considered opinion that the people at this site oft-times know too damn much for their own good. I am absolutely certain that they are technically correct about this clutch issue. I am also just as certain that it will make absolutely no measureable difference over the length of time you own the car. I always leave the clutch down at lights, and I've had cars for over 100K miles and never had to do a thing to the clutch. I had over 140K miles on my MX-6 (to cite a Mazda example) with zero clutch work. Yeah, if you're planning on keeping the car for a half-million miles or so, this might be an issue. Otherwise, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Unless someone is claiming that there's something special about the 8's clutch, but I don't believe I'm seeing that.
