Closing deal on R3 Or GT need help

Ok Guys what do you think .Its about $75.00 difference in payment between a 2009 R3 @ 32,600 $575.00 a month or or a fully loaded 2008 RX-8 GT $398.00 a month .Trading in my cayman ZERO down and 10K back in my pocket . I owe 28K On My Cayman and they say its only worth 36K so they are over allowing 2K ? Your Input will make a difference ok.. so POST IT!! Buying on Saturday ,Thanks Much :eyetwitch

chancejat 11-12-2008 10:45 PM

if you can afford it get the r3.....then put some sticky tires on it

greg985 11-12-2008 10:45 PM

R3 FTW other than that I would stick with the OBS, my .2

wantan8 11-12-2008 10:59 PM

I'd go with the GT. That's what I'm probably gonna trade my car in for. Me personally, I don't want the boy racer looks of the R3. Let's face it, a car looking like that will get a lot of much faster cars wanting to race you. But I think I read on another post that you will do mods anyway so go with that if that is the case.

Just my two cents though. I love the lip spoiler myself. The good news is, you can't go wrong with either so.

Learjet_Pilot 11-12-2008 11:01 PM

Um, Jagger, all I can say is if you think you're gonna be inconspicuous in the RX-8, and nobody will want to race you, you're in for a surprise.

Haze 11-12-2008 11:02 PM

The stiffer shocks on the R3 are a very good thing, and I have had two cars in my life with recaro seats ... those things are totally worth the extra money. Make sure that you have the cash to do it, but if you do, the R3 is that much cooler of a car IMHO.

swoope 11-12-2008 11:08 PM

op,

that is some very fuzzy math!

beers

05rex8 11-12-2008 11:16 PM

if it were me, I would sell the cayman privately and make some money on it. then get your R3 with a down payment. a lower payment will be a better one. plus you may get a lower interest rate when you put down a good chunk of money.

ShinkaTeen 11-12-2008 11:33 PM

If your a MAN. buy an r3. If your a wuss. Buy a Bug.

man i sound awesome.

hahahhahahaha j/k.

i say R3... whats 75 bucks?

Highway8 11-12-2008 11:37 PM

R3, because of the seats and the extra oil injector. You will never be able to add those upgrades to the 08 for the money you save. The better car you start with the better you will end with.

I am not sure how many 04-08 mods will work with the R3 but it wont take long before they are available.

Tell the dealer no deal because they are offering you so little on the cayman, then walk out and they will call you with a better deal at the end of the month. The best deals are always at the end of the month. The sales men need there commision and with the holidays coming it makes it even easier for you to get the price down and the trade in up.

Never buy a car when you think you cant live without it because you will always pay more then you have to.

Haze 11-12-2008 11:38 PM

$75 is actually $175 as swoope points out. I figure that it was a typo, and he doesn't really care about the difference in payments.

ShinkaTeen 11-12-2008 11:43 PM

no care for payment aye mr ?..

get the R3 dude. you wont regret it, its an all around better model . plus it just looks so awesome

"boy racer look" all i can say to the r3 being a "boy racer look" i think the rx-8 already gets that attention. so it wont make a difference.

im practically begging you to get the R3.

so you owe 28k on the cayman and you're getting 26k for it. Do you really need that $2000?

DarkLord7854 11-13-2008 12:58 AM

You can get the dealer to mark the car down further. I got my 09 Touring knocked down to 26,000$ from 29,900$ and twisted their arm to get a flat 400$/mo inc taxes (lease price btw).

Jaggerbomb 11-13-2008 07:23 AM

Typo/05rex8

Oops ,had too many Jagger bombs Myself last night .I owe 28K and they are giving me 36K plus overallowing 2K so giving me 10K cash back Comprende? thats why they are selling me the R3 at sticker .I am doing a 72 month purchase @7.9% and the payment between the GT and the R3 is about $75.00 difference the 2008 GT being Lower due to the 3500 rebate. My credit score is between 660 and 670 they say so I cannott get a 84 month term (Matbe refi later) thats why I am doing 72 .For every $1,000 more I put down its only 17.8 dollars in my payment less so keeing the cash sounds like a better way to go/o5rex8 In WA if you trade tour car in you get the tax credit they only tax you on the Difference between traade in and purchase price (No so In Calif) ,so this saves me another 3K or so so its like getting 41K for my cayman when its all said and done.I would only be able to sell it for around that and maybe less.QUESTION ..................What COLOR??? I cannott decide between BLACK,RED or the COOL BLUE?????? they all look great .Thanks much

SilverHokie 11-13-2008 08:22 AM

Ok...I would privately sell the Cayman as one of the members already suggested. This will allow you to save up some cash and make up that $2000 difference. What I found out is that sometimes patience is a good thing. Of course you have to be lucky enough for that R3 not to sell.

I would not get the 2008...you are going to pissed that you bought it...probably like 2 months later...

So...wait and save more money...or sell the car and get the R3...its all about what you can afford. I know I cannot afford 5 something a month.

yay sounds like he wants the R3:score:

ShinkaTeen 11-13-2008 08:46 AM

i think you cAN get the R3 for 28k. if not 27k .

because when i went in for the 40th anniv, it was 34k, got it down to 29k in 3 days, then stealership lady called me back saying she could do 27.

but i found a nice 06 shinka for 17 by then sooo i was like PSHHHHHHH

reaper1 11-13-2008 09:38 AM

I think your in to much of a rush . If your patience by the end of the month your get a better deal . They'll want to move that car by then. If you rush your going to get screw good, your playing into their hands.

Personally I'm not a fan of either , especially the rims on them , but that s me...... I do like the seats. If you can afford it it's your call.

I would keep the Caymen...................

Renesis07 11-13-2008 09:39 AM

No offense but I dont think either is good. You will be severly upside down for the next 2-3 years if you put nothing down on a brand new RX8. I sold these things, trust me.

Make sure you deal, be firm, they will sell this to you for close to invoice if youre serious and stern and know what youre talking about. From invoice I would put down at least 2-5,000 dollars. Then pocket your 5K from the Cayman and call it a day. That is the best financial decision you can make if you want new.

Next best is buy pre-owned. You can find a nice used 08 with low miles in the 20's.

Consider all avenues before jumping into serious inequity.

arghx7 11-13-2008 09:44 AM

get the 09 for the more reliable oiling system

yeah and expect to be upside down. the market is bad for sports cars and Rx-8's don't hold their value all that well. If you buy it, stick with it and pay it off.

nycgps 11-13-2008 10:02 AM

Huh ?

32,600 for sticker ?

and 36K trade in for Cayman ?

you sound young and you got ripped. big time.

if its me I give them 500-1000 under invoice or I walk. and privately sell your cayman for maybe 38-40K.

Jaggerbomb 11-13-2008 10:13 AM

nycgps

Did not do the Deal yet so have not been ripped so far ok. FYI my Cayman has 25K on it and is a 2.7 Liter with about 15K in mods .NOT A 3.2 S model .New was 54K ..I am begining to think I need to slow down some on this and wait until months end ,you guys are right they screw ya if you hurry in to it .I will wait until the last day of the month ok Promise ya . So what Color? Blue ,Red or Black ?Thanks .you guys are like my therapist:rant:
