Choice between cars, any suggestions?
 

So, right now I have a couple choices between cars, the RX8 being the top on my list. I know that nobody likes answering these questions and I'm probably going to get flamed for it. But, here's the list of cars I'm looking at.

06+ Civic Si
97-01 Prelude (Non SH)
G35 coupe
RX8
Nissan Skyline R33/34 (Yea I know these are impossible to find, especially in the price range I'm looking at. But I'm still looking, never know what you're going to find.)
Integra Type-R
Older M3
WRX and replacing the clutch

Any of those.. Now, I know everyone will say the RX8, but I'm using it as a daily driver in the chicagoland area without a lot of highway miles so I will be getting pretty bad gas mileage. I've got 13,950 to spend and not a cent over. I don't expect any of you to know my financial budget, but in the long run what is your OPINION on what I should go for? The RX8 is what I want, but doesn't seem the ideal choice for where I drive etc. (PS, the snow here sucks so that is one of the other reasons I'm debating not going for the RX8.)

I'm coming from an Acura RSX-S so I know how to drive a standard, and I am used to sportier cars.

I've researched the RX8 a lot, I have the dealers manual and I've skimmed over it more than a few times, looking at peoples problems on the forums and then diagnosing them myself with it.

You are gonna have a hard time finding a nice 8 for under 14k. With that kind of budget you might need to go with the civic

There are a few in the midwest for in the low 13s w/ everything but navi. Midwest + Sports car = budget for me :). They average around 30k miles. Still my first choice, just wondering what everyone thinks.

let me get this straight... your budget is 13.9 and you actually have the gourd to post that you are considering a R33 or R34 GTR, M3, G35 coupe, Civic SI 06+?

On your list, the only ones you may be able to find that aren't raped or mileage ridden to death in YOUR price range are the Prelude or MAYBE a type R. Or an 04 RX8.


Why not just stick with your DC5?

As long as you're aware of gas and insurance costs and are sure you can keep on top of them

I have an rx8, and my sister has a g35 coupe, now i love my car (having to sell it because i need an suv) but i really love it. But, my sister's g35 is the nicer of the two. And talk about a car that can really move. It really surprised me. And as im finding out, rx8's dont hold value at all. G35's hold theirs great. I think that is your best bet.

You could probably get a decent 05 for that price...

Personally, the snow and such won't bother you much if you have snow tires. Just don't drive like a crazy guy, you're good to go.

Just make sure the maintenance was kept up and everything is in good working order, get a compression check and I say go with the 8.

Well if me, it would be a 2000-2002 S2k or a 04-05 RX8. then ill flip a coin to see which one the coin chooses for me :)

Yea.. suprisingly the RX8 is about 15% cheaper - year compared to my RSX. It's pretty crazy. RSX is insane for insurance prices.

@ ^ Above picture. Scoops add 150awhp right? Heard the bondo on the lipkit also acts as a radar deflector so I can do 135 without a worry.

DC5 is nice but im near 130k miles so..

I've found everything I've been looking @ in the price range I have, it's just about patient shopping lol. R33 / R34's aren't that much around here because they basically come with a rebuilt title. Rebuild cars don't bother me either as one side of my family owns a reputable body / repair shop and I know a few things to look for. My RSX is a rebuild which i got with 15k miles on it, it's just time for something different.

In that case, read other replies, but I'd say go for it, I doubt you'll regret it ;)

considering your budget and gas consumption, go `06 civic.

everyone bear in mind, he has 14K to spend and not a cent more; which means 12K + tax, titling, and licensing fees.

2004 RX8/ 2003 350Z would be my choice

Yea, that's the unfortunate part about it. Unless I can pull a loan out of my ass with a low interest rate that's what I'm looking at. At your mention of the 350z's, I've been looking at them but they look like they have downs syndrome. I'd hover more near the 300 if I can find a TT one at a decent price. I don't know a whole hell of a lot about the Z series other than the new one also has cheap feeling interior bits.

The Chrysler Crossfire is nice from what I've seen and test drive.. but slow :(.. It's all about shopping around at this point, which since I'm driving a 99 impreza sport wagon until I find what I want, is painful to wait for D:..

I could get a goat :\.. Pontiac just turns me off though

buy a 2000-2002 s2k and call it a day. :)

Yea I keep thinking about it haha.. I do love the S2K.. and insurance is still cheaper than what I have now. Thanks for the suggestions guys, a lot nicer here than @ clubrsx.

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed. That body style looks beautiful from the front and beautiful from the rear, but the side profile is just wrong somehow.

That's a good short list you have there. You'll no doubt be happy with whichever you choose.

According to your budget, the Prelude or the Integra are about the only two you can actually afford.

You know once you get the car you will want to add goodies. So make sure your purchase in under $10,000, that way you will have a few dollars to mod with.

I'm not going to be tracking this car much at all, so I don't need super duper speed. Can anyone give me pros vs cons on the Crossfire vs the RX8? I don't know the RX8 or the Crossfire very well from a driving standpoint as I have not spent long behind the wheel of either of them. Does the Crossfire handle well at all?

I don't think the Crossfire is really great in the handling department....and I coulda swore they were super expensive....

I'm sure the repairs aren't going to be cheap either, if something goes wrong.

The MPG on the Crossfire is actually 1 less than the RX-8 *15/23*...so you can't really look at that, haha...

Really, test drive both an decide that way. I can bet the RX-8 will draw you in more, though :)

if me, flip a coin between S2k and Rx8. no need to punish your self with a crossfire. its ugly. but then again, this is my opinion. if you like the style of the car and how it drives then yuo should get it.
