chipped paint

Does anybody else have chipped paint on the leading edges of the appearance package body molding?

Should this be covered by warranty?

G-ReX 06-14-2005 10:12 PM

No big chips like that, but mine are both taking a beating with smaller scratches, chips, and road tar. Way more than the adjacent parts of the car. The lip spoiler is really getting creamed, too. That's all driving damage, so no way it's getting covered.

Should it be covered by warranty could be argued until the end of time or when the RX7 comes back...which ever comes first. ;)

Will it be? Unfortunately there's no way they'll cover standard road damage. :( Gotta agree with G-Rex on this one...

Yeah I've pretty much decided the factory paint is shit and plan on repainting my car in the near future.

My factory paint is great. No paint is going to be immune to road damage. The Velocity Red on my 8 is the best looking stock paint job i've seen in a long time... people ask me occasionally if i've had the car painted aftermarket.

Paint chips WILL happen though.

I have posted this before, and had an appointment to have my dealer look at this and the rest of the rock chips and dents littering the front of my car. The lower airdam feels like sandpaper if you run your finger over it. I'll try to post pictures. Why did Mazda switch from a two coat to a three coat paint process??? Hmm..

Dealer didnt do anything about it. Gave me another bottle of paint.

Mazda paint is garbage...at least on the rx8. I've had it for almost 2 months and I got more chips and little tiny scratches on it then I got on my BMW in 3 YEARS. My bmw still looked brand new when I returned it, no chips, no scratches, nothing.....and I drove that thing like a madman.

The paint they used seems to be kinda soft. It doesn't take anything to scratch or chip it- I've got small dings all over the car, even on the underside of my spoiler (I'd LOVE to know how that happened).

Mine is a total mess. The rest of the car has about 7 chips. I agree the paint is soft.

Just lask weekend I noticed a small chip on the front air damn of the apperance package in the same location as yours. When I was drying the car off with a microfiber towel the paint "flaked" off onto the towel and increased the size of the chip from about 1/8 inch to the size of a dime. I went to the dealer on Monday and showed them the problem. They were calling the regional rep, but I haven't heard back from them yet.

My car is a 2004 Sunlight Silver with 1k miles on it, manufactured in 5/04 I believe.

Take a pick of it and send them a copy with a letter. I had to do this 4 times to get there attn.

Did Mazda end up repainting the problem area?

DOMINION 06-16-2005 03:02 PM

Well the dealer sent it to a paint & body shop but yea they did and @ the P&B shop they smoked in my car...
