your check engine light is telling you something is wrong

that "something wrong" is stored as a code in the ecu

you use a code reader to find out what code is being stored and that gives you an idea of what is wrong with your car

The check engine light or CEL isnt just a "oh noes something's wrong check everything" light, it's an alert to let you know there are stored code(s)

Most autoparts stores will read your code for free. Then you google that code to find out what it means

Not to hijack his thread but im having weird issues as well. I purchased a brand new battery today popped it in and my car started idling like crap now. It ran perfect before the new battery. Had the guy come out and check the new one and its fine. Why would it want to shut off (bad idle) with a new battery?

OP im sorry again for hijacking but i didnt feel the need to create a whole new thread. Run up to autozone and let them read the code for free, get it, and post here im sure these guys will help you!

anytime you unplug the battery you lose your STFT (short term fuel trim). Give it a half dozen drive cycles and it should be fine.
