Check Engine Light

As you guys know I'm new here, I own an '05 AT black RX-8 and I don't really know much about the RX-8.... Today I was driving on the NJ Turnpike when all of a sudden the check engine light came on and the AT light came on too... does anyone know what this is, please help me!

Don't know what the AT light is, but a common cause for the CEL when your car is running fine is a loose gas cap... usually takes a couple start/stop cycles after a fill-up for the CEL to come on. Besides that, there's not enough info to guess on other causes... you might want to invest in a code scanner if you're going to be doing much modifying.

If all else fails take it to the dealer. :yesnod:

"AT" means automatic transmission. Something is probably wrong with your tranny and this is most likely the reason the check engine cell is illuminated.

Since both of these cells are on, you may not want to drive it much and get it to a dealership ASAP.

well i dont have a choice, this i the only car i have.... the AT light actually went out, but the CEL is still illuminating....

If you don't know the reason for the CEL then take it to the dealer. That's what the warranty is for. If they have to keep it any length of time ask for a loaner car.

My dealership says it is definitely a "bad sign" if the CEL is flashing. Is your's steady or flashing???

Well there is something in your glove box called a manual that you could read to get some ideas on what is going on...

Yep that little book is full of useful information. ;)

The manual will also tell you what every cell means along. You should spend some time reading the manual. It will tell you a lot about the car you may not know about.

It means there is a problem but it is less urgent than if it is flashing.
