check engine light
 

Ok .... i have the AP midpipe and catback exhause, so obviously my check engine light goes on .... however, I bought one of those spacers that s supposed to kick it back off. Shop puts it on , light stayed off for a day or so .... but first time i drove it significantly it went back on and has stayed on. Haven't brought it back to the shop yet but any suggestions ????

Spacers don't work on the '8, this ain't no Civic.

Though some people with early models find they do......

(I'm told) the computer sends a rich/lean/rich wave to the injectors and looks for a corresponding wave at both oxygen sensors. If this check fails, it sets a code.

I don't understand what triggers this light. Stealth's explanation makes sense but it does not explain why CELs are a hit-or-miss situation with many other users on this forum. I'm also running an Agency Power midpipe / aftermarket catback, and guess what, I haven't seen a single CEL.

I've got a feeling it'll come on eventually, though.

Well I know this ain't no civic .... but i was told it would work by vivid racing and they work with 8's quite a bit.

At any rate, if that's the case and it's not going to work ..... is their a solution to this issue to get rid of the CEL for the 8 ?

I'm pretty sure that the COBB Accessport is the only way to completely mask/remove it.

Well that f'n figures .... the cobb won't work for my 09 , however, if the cobb would fix it ..... would another be able to such as the e manage ultimate when i turbo the car ?

Hmmmmm well if the company you purchased the O2 fooler from can't help you.... I guess I would get your money back for that part.

Then just suck it up and live with it, sounds like you knew the risks when you purchased the cat-delete midpipe.

Sucks yes, but that's part of the price paid for trying to "tweak" the car. Yes?

Keep working on it however, I'm interested in the resolution if there is one.

The part was only a couple dollars, so i'm not really concerned with that .... I never said that I couldn't "suck it up and live with it" , not really sure what your point is .... but if i can find a better solution other than switching back to the factory cat every time I need an echeck then , of course , i'd like to find out what it is.

So far the only solution i've come up with is just that, switching back when echeck comes around, or using whatever piggy back system I can when I turbo the car to mask it. Pretty sure most of them would be able to do that, not just the cobb .... even though i'm told the cobb works best with the car. Doubt I'll be seeing that avail for my series 2, though .... but who knows.

Bringing up a dead thread after searching for a solution to this on my 04 as well....will the Cobb still mask this cel?

I took my Mazda Rx8 2006 to my local dealership because my engine light came on, yet it ran fine. I was told I needed a new H20 sensor, for the emissions system. I Ok'd the work and returned after the sensor was special ordered. Now I'm told that when they removed the sensor that it had melted and now they need to drop the manifold and try to make new threads in order to replace the new sensor. My husband says he's never heard of any sensor melting and he looked at it and looked like it had been stripped. If my mechanic did strip it what recourse do I have now? Has anyone EVER heard of an H20 sensor melting? I feel if they did strip it I'm paying alot of money for their mistake. Help!!!

First thing -- it's an O2 sensor for Oxygen not an H2O sensor for water.

Second -- Unfortunately it is quite possible and likely that the O2 sensor's thread were damaged upon removal. Perhaps of no fault of the mechanic.

The threads on my exhaust manifold were ruined when I removed the O2 sensor, I used penetrating oil and heat and it still wouldn't come out nicely.

The exhaust runs hotter in a rotary engine then a typical piston engine, so take that in to consideration.

Lastly - We have two O2 sensors. The upstream O2 sensor is a wide band located in the exhaust manifold. The other is located in the catalytic convertor used to monitor the catalytic efficiency.

Please help me my 8 has been down off almost a year

My rx8 has been down for almost a year it!
What happened was I was pulling out of a store and as I was driving down the road it wouldn't accelerate then it started like chugging I would say. It felt like I had a flat tire.
So I stopped to check if I did and I didn't so I got back in and tried to drive away but it wouldn't go over 15 mph so I pulled into a store shut it off and it hasn't started since....

year, mileage? MT? when was the last coil, plug wire, plug change?

It's an 04 it has almost 60k and I changed the spark plugs about a month before it happened and I haven't changed the couls how do I check them.

How long has it been since they were replaced? When you replace the plugs you should replace the wires as well. Do you own a spark tester? Is the CEL on, if so is it flashing?

I replaced them a month before it broke down and I have no type of tester but my DSC light if flashing. Do you have any ideas on what it could be?
It was weird it started chugging and felt like I had a flat tire and it would accelerate past 15-20 mph.
