Case for oil and funnel?
 

Did a search nada. Where do you guys keep your oil and funnel? Mazda needs to make an oil kit.

one quart can fit into the same spot as the tire inflation device. just loosen the adjustable belt that holds it in place and drop the quart of oil in there with it.

funnel? who needs a funnel :)

Besides adding oil I need the funnel when I change the oil. Also a rag for checking it when there are no paper towels at the gas station. A nice Mazda kit would be nice.

I just toss all my napkins from fast food places into my glove box for when I need to check my oil. I also rigged up my cargo net a bit and it now holds 2qt of oil up on the back wall of the trunk. It almost looks like it was suppose to fit in that spot but they forgot to make a strap. My aim is pretty good so I dont really need a funnel.

I keep mine in a plastic bag in the pass through. Don't need a funnel. If you insist on a funnel get some throw aways from your local gas stations instead of having a big plastic one.

My solution is to ALWAYS keep a quart of Royal Purple in my pass thru lid to the trunk, also whats cool is I keep one of those mini funnels you attach to the oil bottle itself (like a neck extender - Walmart 1.50).... i also keep a metric socket set and basic tools in there for emergencies.

Pass thru box to the trunk will hold a couple quarts and a shop towel -

I keep my oil in a one quart ziplock bag in the depression in the trunk. First aid kit and tool kit also nestle nicely in there. I keep a couple of diposable paper shop rags ( the blue "shop rag on a roll" ones) in a sandwich bag, same place. The quart ziplock bag comes in handy if there is a TSA guy hanging around.

As mysql101 says, funnel? Ever since oil started coming in screw-top plastic bottles I have not needed a funnel when I put oil into any car.

I don't think that's a good idea! To someone just finding out about the 8 for the first time, an official "Mazda Oil Kit" would make the whole "adding oil thing" seem WAY BIGGER than it really is. Even now, newbies hear the 8 "burns oil," as if it were a design flaw rather than something the engine's designed to do. I can just hear it now: "if the 8 really doesn't use much oil and it's really no big deal, then how come Mazda includes an oil kit, huh?!?"

Honestly, just keep a quart in one of the many spaces others have mentioned. It's really no big deal. In 6,200 miles I've added maybe 1/3 of a quart three times—like once every two months. If I had a garage I'd simply keep the oil on a shelf instead of in the car. I mean, it's not as if the oil level drops suddenly!

Spirted and normal. Then there's no need to carry a quart of oil.

By the way why do you need on anyways? Just check it at home.

Only time you may need one is on a cross country trip or track weekend.

I travel a lot and drive hard so I add oil more than most drivers. I'm going to get a plastic container this weekend to put everything in.

I have a quart of RP in my trunk all the time ... oh wait I used it last week I think.

Time to restock ... oh wait my oil change due soon (almost 2500 miles) .... need to buy 5 then (4 to change 1 for trunk)

I keep two quarts in the pass-through compartment thingy (although after this thread, I may keep one under the hood). For funnel, though, I like to keep a few of the paper ones you get at gas stations. They're a little flimsy, but they work well enough. Since not all stations have them, when I find one that does, I just grab a few of them.

I'd rather have Mazda overstate the rotary's need for oil consumption than vice-versa. Nothing's sadder than some "average commuter" letting the oil level drop down low enough for the Check Oil Light to come on because that's what they're used to in every other single car they've driven, and letting the reliability suffer because of it. You've gotta remember that the average motorist does not read every word of their owner's manual and that web resources like RX8Club.com are only accessed by a small percentage of all RX-8 owners.

That fucks over resale values for *all* of us. Seriously guy, compared to every single other car on the market, the RX-8 DOES use a lot of oil, and Mazda DOES need to remind owners that checking & adding oil is important. It also does need to let owners know that the cost of adding oil is very minor compared to the overall cost of ownership. If you can't afford $5 every 3 months then you have no business owning a sports car.
