Car won't start, blown fuse?

I have a 2008 RX-8, when I went to get into this afternoon I found the car won't start. The starter doesn't turn over or crank at all, I just get a short hum and that's it. All of the gauge cluster lights up normally and the trunk release also works fine. I had driven the car this morning to McDonalds for breakfast and it started up fine both going there and coming back.

I'm trying to save me a tow to the mazda dealer, wondering if I just blew a fuse and if there is a particular fuse I should be looking at?

It's pretty quick to check all the fuses, I would suggest starting with that. There is a fuse box under the hood and another in the driver's side door sill.

Is the red dash light of a car with a key in it flashing when trying to start?

Thanks, I checked the fuses and they look fine, only other thing is the relays (ST, IGNITION?) but I have no idea how to check them and am not having much luck pulling them out.

The dash light with the car and key turns on when trying to start the car but doesn't flash. It goes solid as I turn the key and then turns off after a few seconds.

I think at this point I'll just get it towed to the dealer, was just trying to rule out something captain obvious.

Turned out an animal chewed into a wiring harness, in the process of getting it fixed.

Ah. Did not see that coming, but you're not the first :/
Good luck!

That's awesome, my buddies duramax had a mouse nest in the airbox when it sat for a couple months last year. Hope its an easy fix.

Under the hood?
It's also a good idea to keep the recirculate setting on when parking it or storing it, especially in winter.
Little varmints come inside through the engine bay and wreak havoc, chew wires and build nests on the cabin air filters.

05 rx8 shinka. Started my car after we had heavy rain. Tried to open my moon roof by pushing the button and it wouldn't open but instead it started making a noise like a electrical noise which was coming from the moon roof button so I turned off the car. Went go restart my car and no crank at all. The windows won't roll up, radio doesn't turn on and power locks don't work. Any idea what it could be? Thanks in advanced

Did you check the fuses?

Could be loose battery clamps.

Jus sayin...

^My money's on that as well. If you don't push the clamps all the way down on the posts, they can pop loose easily. Don't ask me how I know.
