Car wash warning

I bought some armor all car wash today and it says on the back:

Do not allow wash water to enter storm drains.

???
How am I supposed to wash my car and not have water get into the gutter, eventually getting into a storm drain somewhere?

Storm drains go into the nearest river/reservoir.
Sewers go to the treatment plant.

here in los angeles, you wash your car, the water goes down the driveway into the gutter where it flows into a storm drain, which empties into huge concrete channels they call rivers, which eventually end up in the ocean.

i just go to a car wash, and not worry about that kinda stuff. the local ones have good stuff. or at least here they do.

Wash it on the lawn if you can. The soap won't hurt the grass

Yeah, and driving the car all over the grass will be great for it too.

marvin_rock 03-15-2007 02:37 AM

wash it on the grass while someone is mowing it and it's starting to rain. Then the grass/rain will make it so no one gives a damn about the soap.

That's a weird warning though :X

If you take your car to a do-it-yourself wash, it will have sewage drains in each stall - and they will have warm water as well....

I rather like a good biodegradable dish soap because it can cut grease and help remove protein - like big gooshy bugs, plant sap, and bird donations.....Alcohol and vinegar are also good -

Alcohol and vinegar 0.o?? really? thats weird but interesting information...too bad i'm too young to buy alcohol period so i guess i'll have to stick with regular car wash soaps...

and yes that is one of the weirdest warnings i've ever heard but iono if they can really prosecute you -.- i doubt some guy is constantly watching all storm drains and will have this huge red alert go off if something changes and somehow they will KNOW its from your car. but anywayz best of luck with that.

Uhm... I've been to ATL, and from what I remember there is no age limit on rubbing alcohol. Just my guess is that Winfree wasn't referring to dropping moonshine on his rex, the car would probably drive a little sloppy afterwards. Ahhh, I crack myself up.

If you put it down the storm drain it will make very large Alligators.

ya i knew it wasnt like beer or anything but i just never heard of anyone using any type of alcohol to wash their car with...so rubbing alcohol works? how does it compare with like soaps and stuff?

Soaps tend to have a much harder time removing the paint.
:)

Dish soap is supposed to be the worst thing for car finishes specifically because it strips oils out.

jmerc 03-15-2007 09:46 PM

Why would you buy armor all car wash anyways, buy some decent product first. Armor all is for tires. :)

CarAndDriver 03-15-2007 10:50 PM

The poor poor LA Gutter err River.

Phantom Menace 03-15-2007 11:03 PM

Maybe cause of oil from the car may wash into the strom drains? :dunno:

BTW, the carwash by my house is like $2.00 for 2 minutes! The best washes are "driveway" washes, where you can take your time...
