Which Car Should I choose

I have looked at all of these cars for a while still undecided as to which should be my next car....if you have had any experience with these please share...Thanks!

1. 2004 RX-8 10,000 miles loaded with nav $22,000

2. 1998 Lexus SC400 60,000 miles $14,000

3. 1999 BMW M3 Convertible 47,000 miles $20,000

4. 1999 BMW M Roadster 50,000 miles $17,000

5. 1992 BMW 850i 68,000 miles $17,500

I currently drive a 97 328i conv. but in need of a new car...

Ask yourself ,,what do you want from a new car?
I personally would always go with the lowest mileage for the buck.
You should be able to get a 2005 RX-8 for around that same price if you look hard enough.
And it should be NEW.

I have heard stories about older used BMW's and the engines not being reliable. But that is just what I have heard.

You know you are asking a bunch of RX-8 lovers this question.
So what kind of answer do you expect from us?

Get the RX-8. Happy motoring

Of all these the only one that I would avoid is the 850 due to parts and service being so expensive. And it's ugly. It really depends on what you want out of a car. All other things being equal, I'd go for the M3.

Terrance26 08-05-2006 07:39 PM

Get the 8. You won't be dissapointed.

lmao..ur funny!!

Raptor2k 08-05-2006 07:55 PM

Too many miles on all of them except the 8 for my taste.

Stavesacre21 08-05-2006 09:05 PM

I'd say that's kind of a tacky pool to choose from. Well lets see...the 8 is the only car from this decade...and aside from the M's, its in a somewhat different catagory.

Considering how 4 of your 5 decisions are luxury based, not to mention your current BMW, the 8 doesn't sound like it fits you. If it's a diamond in the rough, you must be looking for cubic zirconia. Enjoy the 90s.

DreRX8 08-05-2006 11:23 PM

Besides us being biased on here--the 8 is the best car in terms of reliability and value on that list. An SC400 is nice but its yestertech. Those BMWs will be $$$$ to maintain.

If you have the patience to look...

Find a low-mileage, HARDTOP M3. By low-mileage, for an M3, I mean under 50k. They seem to last 100k+....

I've had first hand experience in 2 generations of M3's...a 2005 and a 1999...and boy oh boy, it's a great car!

zaglo6204 08-05-2006 11:28 PM

driving an 04 8 & a 98 M3 (coupe), i think i can honestly tell you to go with the 8; it really is quite a car.

maybe it's just me, but since the late 80s, it hasn't really been all that much of a feat to make it past 100K miles. And yes, others are right...the maintenence and repairs on those BMWs are bound to run you a pretty penny. Just a thought.

AdRoCK3217 08-05-2006 11:35 PM

^^^ Everyone in my family (besides me) owns a Ford. I find 100k+ an AMAZING feat ....

not to beat a dead horse, but I own one thats about to pass 170K on the same engine and tranny. Required maintenence and good care go a long way, reguardless of make.

Velocity Red RX-8 08-05-2006 11:57 PM

the m3 conv. im looking at is a 99 techno violet purple/grey leather with a hardtop...47k miles for $20k....the color in person is crazy

Unhooked 08-06-2006 12:03 AM

M Roadster hands down...second choice would be the 8 if MT else the M3, not to mention M Roadster are very rare, only con I see is it has a plastic rear window which turns yellow

Velocity Red RX-8 08-06-2006 12:06 AM

why hands down have you driven one

My first car was an 87 Tempo hand-me-down. I sold it at 283k miles and it kept going for a couple more years after that. My brother got an Escort ('89 or '90). That one had 240k on it when he sold it, the last 100k of that was without an oil change. The unreliability of domestic makes in the 80's is a myth (hey, if you can make generalizations based on an unscientific sample, so can I).

Edit: oh and M roadster or the 8.

knight7 08-06-2006 02:48 AM

unless you have the money cash in hand, get a brand new car 0 miles, the way i look at it if you gonna make payments make it worth it. get a 2006 M3 dont get the Rx8 this car needs too much care to keep it neat and that one already has a history you dont know about. basically used BMWs are expensive to keep after the warranty is over, Rx8 is the best car i ever been but Mazda service sucks, lexus way too old.

musclecarconvrt 08-06-2006 09:23 AM

On your list the RX8 is the best choice. Those BMWs are nice but are going to be mega bucks to service. The RX8 is not only newer, but will handle better and last longer while giving you an very sexy ride inside and out.

AdRoCK3217, I got over 265K miles out of my last Ford Explorer.

allmotorRX8 08-06-2006 10:56 AM

FYI, none of those cars are new...

Pros:
-The focus has LOTS more headroom. At 6'3" I can fit comfortably in the focus, EVEN when sitting straight up. I still have another 3 or 4 inches to spare up top
-There is quite a bit more trunk space, even with a spare tire under the trunk
-With the manual seat adjustments sliding my seat forward/back is much quicker (only applies to some RX-8s)
-3 seatbelts in the back
-A bit more legroom for the back seat passengers, and a bit more headroom
-The cabin does not fog up as easily on humid days, because it is larger
-The back seats lay down, for lots of cargo area
-It doesn't burn oil, so no need to check it every week or two
-Better gas mileage. I get about 25-26 mpg instead of 18mpg
-Tires are cheaper
-TCO is far less
-Doesn't recommend premium gas

Cons:
-It seems to have a little less power than the 8
-Not nearly as unique as an 8

I guess that's about it.

So anyone who wants better gas mileage, more room, less hassle- go check out a focus! You'll love it!

so for this reasond he should definally buy a focus....
