Car messed up with on its first day out...

I'm pissed.

Took the car out of winter storage Tuesday, took it to the dealer on Wednesday and had them shine it (among other things). This morning, after its first night out in 10 weeks, someone sprayed ketchup all over my passenger door. :wallbash:

I can somehow understand the "uhh nice car... you bastard" mentality, but why do people get so aggressive as soon as you have a nicer car than they do?

I'm not talking only about vandalism, but all the mad stares I get on the road... I can drive like a granny, but because the car is low slung and sounds sporty, people act as if I was racing thru the streets at max speed and yell at me. I even had a guy who was crossing a street (and not at a pedestrian crossing) stop in the middle of the road and yell "hey HEEYY SLOW DOWN YOU F****** MANIAC!" while I was going 25mph in a 35mph and a good 40 feet away from him. :wtf:

/end rant... :soapbox:

NoTears316 03-22-2007 02:42 PM

good job

NoTears316 03-22-2007 02:43 PM

Maybe I'm just misreading your post... did you have the dealership wash your car?

mysql101 03-22-2007 02:44 PM

lol.

Same thing happens to me. Some woman in a housing development was yelling at me - "SLOW DOWN ASSHOLE!", I was doing exactly 25 mph in a 25 mph zone.

In fact I had them change oil, flush the trans, tint the windows, check out a few things under warranty and install the MS dual exhaust. So while it was there I asked them to clean it inside-out, plus glaze and wax :wiggle:

Yes, I usually wash it myself but... I'm lazy and it's still cold outside :o:

NoTears316 03-22-2007 03:11 PM

I'm wondering how big of an asshole someone would have to be to spray your car with ketchup. Were you at a fast food joint or anything? If not, this jackass would have had to carry ketchup to your car to do this. wtf?!

Mendossa 03-22-2007 03:21 PM

It was in the street about 50 feet from my place... a few restaurants about a ½ a mile away. Looks like they used a few ketchup packs they give you at fast food joints and they made sure to tug on the door handle and smear some in the mecanism...

Was able to get most of it tho... :anger:

map 03-22-2007 03:44 PM

Just be happy it was nothing permanent. You dodged a bullet. They could have easily decided to key it or worse!

BlueEyes 03-22-2007 03:48 PM

Someone left their McDonalds cup ontop of my roof the other day. There was no McDonalds anywhere near where I was parked, so I don't know how that happened. I was a little pissed off since they didn't use a coaster, but then I remembered my cari isn't made of wood.

CarAndDriver 03-22-2007 03:48 PM

Sucks but glad it didnt cause any permanent damage like a keying! Those are the worst.

It got keyed last summer... :tear:

Three 1.5 inch scratches on the front passenger wheel fender and one (deeper) 3-4 inch on the rear passenger wheel fender. Nothing too serious...

04RX8man 03-22-2007 03:53 PM

That sucks man. I know what you mean I have a bright yellow 8 and it's even worse. Everyone can c me and they all give me po'd stares and are always mouthing stuff to me. It sux but they're just jealous they drive a piece of sh**. HA oh well sorry about that again

dmc27 03-22-2007 04:09 PM

weak. sorry mendossa.

I've got an amusing "slow down" story, too. Going down a side road - kind of a popular cut through for the morning rush hour - and was not going fast. I saw a woman putting her infant down next to her SUV to get in, so I slowed way down b/c she was in the street to get in the driver's side. She still gave me the nastiest look and slow down wave & I was crawling!! I'm talking single digit slow. So as I rolled past her already in neutral I gave her a nice high rev scream.

Seriously - what kind of idiot decides NOT to put the kid into the vehicle on the side that's protected from the street?? F'in moron.

guess it just looks REALLY fast.
[/end rant]

llzjayarzll 03-22-2007 06:13 PM

at least someone didnt put fat ass scratches on the hood of your mint condition vr4. =(

VRZOOMZOOM 03-22-2007 06:21 PM

I think a lot of people who are unaware of the RX-8 want to comment on it, both positive and negative. I've also received the slow down!! when i'm not even on the gas and just coasting in 2nd gear. I also think the design of the car def has something to do with it. I've been told by my friends who are in other cars that when i'm cruising with them, it looks fast in motion even though i'll be doing same speed or so.

Also, i think there are some people who are just plain and simple jealous, see you with a nice car and have poor interpersonal skills to approach you so they wind up being a loser and just throw out a comment to draw your attention to them. But in the end, it seems like people are just jealous and it could be, because they are jealous of your life and your car because they are the ones who are popping out babies and can't have their sports car fix. So its like they envy to be like us. Truth be told, i always thought of the 8 as being affordable so i never understood the whole jealously part, but like i said, its probably the design of the car and how few of them are on the road, atleast in my area. So people will tend to stare and want to comment on it.

But anyways, if all you got was ketchup, i say that was much better than someone who keyed your car or something.

grnsharingan 03-22-2007 06:37 PM

funny we r on this topic

i was in a neighbor hood recently and i was driving my galaxy grey 8. i had just picked up a friend and his little brother and we were going to play soccer ...as i drive through (10 mph cuz lots of ppl in the streets) this old guy like 60 ish years old is sitting there on his drive way doing something to his flowers n wut not. he picks up a pick and comes at me in yelling slow down u mother f*****. well im pissed cuz im going 10mph and he cussed with a kid in my car. so i slow down almost to a stop...(secretly contemplating to go down and yell) but drove off..... i dunno wut it is but that aint cool....

Stavesacre21 03-22-2007 07:23 PM

time to start parking in the garage.

I too have been subject to vandalism BS. Aside from just crossing your fingers, everyone seemed to reverberate the same sentence...garage.

CarAndDriver 03-22-2007 10:44 PM

Sorry about the previous keyings too.

BullitHockey 03-22-2007 10:50 PM

yeah people who think they have the right to tell people to slow down piss me off. dont get me wrong there are situations when idiots who are being dangerous to themselves and others need to be reminded not to be stupid. But people who cant judge speed really well and just judge by noise and yell and scream piss me off. I was going through my neighborhood about 35 in 30 nothing too crazy some guy comes running out his yard waving his arms. I simply stopped revved to about 4k and dumped the clutch needless to say he doesnt complain when I go by anymore.

Oh i forgot to mention I live in Naples, FL the elderly capitol of the USA so Im dealing with fools all the time.

knight7 03-22-2007 11:30 PM

they keyed my car in halloween, those lil bastards got a nice beating for it. i still haven't fixed it cause i want to get every ding or scratch out and make my baby look good again. the ketchup thing tho is hillarious, i wish i was there. in fact i wish they wouldve done that to my friends civic. he would have a heart attack. jajajajaja i cant stop laughing

Skiptomylue 03-23-2007 05:22 AM

its usally a lot of punk kids who dont own their own car yet"hey im going to be cool and mess this car up"
but when they finally get their first car.. karma comes right around and then they get in an accident and die..
at least.. thats what i hope happends anyways...ignorant pricks..

stanleylee 03-23-2007 05:33 AM

it good coz is it ketchup and not keys

1stgen8 03-23-2007 06:12 AM

It's nice having a garage to park mine in. I get a lot of ppl looking everytime I pull it out for a ride. I also get a lot of dumbass kids who try to race me.

MrSuicideDoor 03-23-2007 07:42 AM

maybe a tomato jacked off on it

StewC625 03-23-2007 07:51 AM

I live at the very end of a 3-block long cul-de-sac - so about 20 houses on my street that I pass by to go anywhere. Because of kids, etc. in the neighborhood, I almost never go more than 20 through the neighborhood. Yet there are two neighbors on my street who constantly bitch to other neighbors (they don't have the balls to say it to me) about how I'm constantly speeding up and down the street in "that damn yellow sports car".

I have also heard from various neighbors that they also talk about us and "how much money they must make" - it's a weird setup - damn near the entire neighborhood is still owned by the people that built the houses nearly 20 years ago - and most of them wouldn't be able to buy in the neighborhood now due to how the property values have risen. We bought three years ago for a price that's close to 3x what these people paid to build the houses. So they see the car and they rumor that "what does that guy do to afford a house that sold for XXX,XXX and drive a $60,000 car" ... $60,000??? LOL

Yeah but your neighbors get in fights and throw clothes and such out the windows. I wish I was there to see that...just pull up a lawnchair and a beer and sit back.

Remember that Celica commercial where it was just parked and turned off with no one in it on the side of the road in a neighborhood and some old man walks up to it and yells "slow down". Haha, that was classic.

Also, the word "cul-de-sac" is hilarious.

yea well once i get the firepit installed, i'll have a viewing party :D:

Rotario 03-23-2007 03:30 PM

I've noticed that I get a lot fewer jealous stares when mine is dirty. Think I'll start carrying around a bucket of dirt to dump on it when I have to park in questionable areas (like Florida). :yelrotflm

This is so got damn true. Clean and polish the car, get into weird incidents, stares, odd comments, etc... Dirty car, much, much less. Damn hot looking RX-8....haha...

I'm amazed at the amount of simple minded jealous and hate there is.

I get stares all the time. I now know what a hot female with the perfect body must feel like. I can deal with that, but not the b.s. sickos that say and do stupid crap.

The latest episode was somebody slamming their car door into my car, leaving a small dent. So damn sad, I'm starting to wonder if there is any hope for the human race.

lol, that series produced one of the greatest commercials ever: here

Shinka-Dono 03-26-2007 01:46 AM

Regarding OP: Sorry to hear that. I have not yet been a victim of that nonsense. I just do not understand what the hell is wrong with people.

I grew up poor as hell. Never had an ounce of hatred toward people with nice cars. I was just appreciative to seen one. I have chastised my friends in highschool for almost throwing rocks at a Porsche and yelled at a stranger for opening his door into a 350Z. I just don't freakin get it.
