Car doesn't start on first try?
 

Searched, couldn't find anything similar to my question.

It's been happening for a few weeks.. Every time I try to start the 8, it doesn't start on it's first try. I need to let go of the key and turn it again for it to start. Don't think it's the battery since I changed it 1/2010. Could it be the spark plugs? That's really the only issue, runs perfect. Thanks.

more like fuel pump not getting primed right.
try this, next time you want to start the car, cycle the key on and off a couple times then start it see if it starts the first time.

Could be, how many miles are on it?

Just hit 30k recently.

A tune up could be in order; what kind of maintenance have you done to the car?

could also be a weakening starter?

Do you premix? Have you done a decarbon cleaning? I would like to see the spark plugs...

I haven't done any maintenance except the usual 3k miles oil changes. No premix, no decarbon cleaning. Should I?

Today, for some reason I didn't have the issue but it seems like it's starting slower? Maybe it is the starter?

My jeep did the same thing for years... it was the fuel line not holding pressure properly... not sure about the 8 but it was a cheap fix for the jeep. Any mechanic should be able to test your line pressure... the other opinion was it might have been the fuel pump...

have you looked at the battery? to check for corrosion on the terminals etc? did you do any kind of work on the car just before this started- even if you think its completely unrelated.

Nothing. I'll look at the battery. I did try to jump start some random guy at school one day like last month. That's the only time I touched the car in any way.

Ah, did I forget to mention, I need to add oil. lol.. The oil light keeps blinking. Would that be related? I've had the light turn on w/o any starting issues before though. :dunno:

Coils/Plugs/Wires and quit letting your oil get low, then test your battery.

Then let us know if you still have problems :D

Hard starting could also be a sign of compression loss.

Well, after having the issue for a few months the 8 finally died. It didn't start yesterday. All I hear when I turn the key is a clicking sound. I did jump start it and it started. I'm taking it to the dealer today, how could a battery die out so quick? If it is the battery..

well this new none start might have nothing to do with the earlier issue. maybe you left the dome light on or the map light or the light in the trunk stayed on and drained the battery.

mine does the same when is fully warmed, turned off, and turned back on right away. however, it starts right away in the second attempt so that's what I have been doing all this time.

How often do you drive the car? When you do, for how long?
If you drive very little, then it might make sense to get a battery tender.

Well, I went to the dealer and yea, the battery was dead. That was the issue. Another thing I had asked them to check was the 8 was feeling sluggish when accelerating from a stop. It would vibrate.

Well, the reason they said was the coils. I have to replace 4 coils. $400. How much are coils? $100 a piece? And will bad coils make the car sluggish when stepping on the gas. (and no, it's not the lack of torque) .. :)

Stil surprised the battery went bad after a year and a few months..

You can buy four Mazda OEM coils for just over a hundred and auto parts store would be less for theirs. It will take about a half an hour to put them in. Why pay them $300 to put in....
