Canadian RX-8 fuel consumption

Hi everybody!

Ok there’s my MPG from a RX-8 GT 2004, Canadian car with 4,801 Km (2,982 Miles) at the departure.

Cruising speed = 110 Km/h = (68.3 MPH)
Ottawa – Montréal = 189 Km ( 117.43 Miles)
Gas = 19.25 L (4.23 Gallons)

So, 117.43 Miles divided by 4.23 Gallons = 27.7 MPG

are you sure? this sounds odd

Texas 8 03-01-2004 05:55 PM

I believe we have a new world record....

jniamehr 03-01-2004 06:15 PM

lolol... Im averagine like 13 mpg right now.... Im calling up my mazda dealership to get my ECU reflashed...

The French Guy 03-01-2004 06:18 PM

No BS! I was with my wife and 2 kids (11 and 6) in the back. All the systems TCS etc. were ON.

The only thing I can think of, is the anti-pollution system. Maybe we don’t have the same norms in Canada (?????)

It would be interesting if another Canadian member gave us his MPG.

Actually your calcs are wrong.

19.25 liters = 5.08531199 US gallons

Thats about 23mpg

The French Guy 03-01-2004 06:25 PM

Here in Canada we go with Imperial gallon
witch is: 1 gallon = 4.54609 liters

poison123 03-01-2004 06:30 PM

Thats nice, but your still only getting 23mpg in US terms.

Doctorr 03-01-2004 06:45 PM

CANADIAN mpg......

That would be why the threads title is 'Canadian........'

I regularly get 23mpg.....thats 19+ if you are figuring in U.S. gallons.

Well, there’s the difference! US gallon are smaller than the Imperial gallon. So if you do 23 mpg with a US gallon and we do 27.7 mpg with Imperial gallon, as far as I’am concern, it’s excellent!

So if you want your mpg to go up, come to Canada for a beer!!! That’s it!

iamcanadian 03-01-2004 08:31 PM

Were metric so why are you even bothering with the conversion unless you want to compare it to the US numbers we see posted all of the time? Regardless, I get pretty much the exact same numbers as you on the highway . . . it is a lot worse in the city though!

zoom44 03-01-2004 08:42 PM

because us 'mericuns wont do it for ourselves and would rather have you guys do it.;)

The French Guy 03-01-2004 09:58 PM

Well iamcanadian I been brought up with gallons, ounces, quarts and so on. For me 9.2 L / 100 Km means nothing especially if I want to compare with guys in MPG!!!!

Anyway I don’t care for the MPG, otherwise I would have a Toyota Prius or a scooter!

Regards

Serge

Ottawa – Montréal = 189 Km ( 117.43 Miles)
Gas = 19.25 L (4.23 Gallons)

So that's 10.2L/100km, not too bad.

The French Guy 03-02-2004 03:16 PM

I think too smoker! This car has a great performance and everything’s have a price!

And why do Europeans & Candians list their height in feet & inches ?

The French Guy 03-02-2004 04:57 PM

Do you know why we are in the $%?&&* metric?

We went metric when they raised the price of fuel!
So it’s look better 0.80 cents a liter than $3.60 a gallon!

But for old people like me (50), we still going with feet and gallon!
