Canadian prices anyone?

Don`t worry, I know it`s between 26 and 30 USD according to the road and track guy, and it seems as though those are sufficiently reliable figures, but has ANYONE heard Canadian prices for the RX-8?

Mathematical conversion ranges it between 39 and 45 CAD, HOWEVER...

canadian prices for cars have a tendency of being somewhat independent of the US price (I heard the Acura MDX goes for around 50 grand in the states, well gess what, it`s the same price IN CANADIAN DOLLARS up here making it about 32k us in comparison).

So it`s a valid question: N E 1 know what the Canadian market price of this cars gonna be (approx)?

ya (i live in canada too) and i've observed that canadains just won't pay as much for cars as americans, so the market up here warrants lower prices... i expect that the RX-8 won't be over that 39K value as a max, if they really want to sell any... probably about the same price as a BMW 3 series, with a couple of options... i don't know how much they are, but i'm guessing about that much, right??

I'm hoping Mazda Canada uses the same conversion rate they do for the Miata. That being:

21K UDS Base Miata 26K USD Base RX-8
----------------- = -----------------
27K CDN Base Miata X CDN Base RX-8

X = 33.43K CDN

Now that would be right up my alley! If Mazda wants to succeed with the RX-8 in Canada it has to be priced LOW! Canadians don't have alot of money to spend on sports cars that are next to useless 5 months of the year. If a base RX-8 pushes 40K it will flop.

canadien prices

could part of the difference in conversion to canadien have anything to do with import duties? or is it just that you wont need it for 5 months of the year?! if its going to be much cheaper in canada i might make a run to the border instead of getting one locally. :D

You can do that, but I wouldn't recommend it. You'd have to pay broker (sp?) fees, taxes and all that duty crap.

Another reason why its much cheaper here is because of our tax. Though that Canadian conversion sounds superb, we do have to pay a large amount. So its not a matter of us not being able to afford it, its matter of in the end - its the same anyways!

Either way, those converstion things are never true. Mazda will analyse the market in specific demand in the major cities and will price from there.

KrisA - 33 K sounds to good to be true - my acura 1.7 el put me back 27 K (altogether).

I'm looking at 40 K for this car.

The foreign car companies tend to have a few extras for the Canadian market. Like that Acura 1.7 El? I have been to Toronto, and I have seen those Acura-modified civic. I also remember hearing at a car show in Toronto that Volkswagen kept the Corrado in the Canadian market a few years longer than they did in the US. I know many VW fans that wanted a new VR6 Corrado. If I’m not mistaken the Mazda Presidia[sp?] was kept longer in Canada compared to our US version MX-3. I wouldn’t be surprised if the RX-8 is cheaper in Canada vs. USA. Sorry for going off on a tangent, but I thought it was interesting to hear either the other cooler cars Canada got, and price breaks [like the Acura MDX]. Anyway, good luck with the shopping neighbors.
