Can it really seat 4?
 

Hello all RX8 fans,

I am just one step away from ordering a new RX8, so hopefully, someone here can help me with this last step.

My wife has made it specific that the new car has to carry the family (herself + son & daughter, both below age 10).....the problem is I am 6ft2 so the front seat is usually near the end of the rail :mad:

So that has already ruled out the Mini Cooper S, BMW 130........

The local dealer does not carry any demo or stock, so there is no way I can be sure that the 8 will fit the family, so I hope I can find some help here.

Now the RX8 is my last chance (for fun), or else we will have to settle for a boring IS250

the lil lady(wife)4'8 is cool as a cucumber altho she rather sit in the back because of my spirited take no bull driving habits(not a safety thing she won't go on rides at kings d either) :kiss:

Might be tight for the passenger behind you...but def. possible, in 4-5 years when the kids grow up, it will be harder, those IS350's are hawt!!!!!$?$?$?$? what about an EVO 9, perfect for the family AWD... one thing that moved me away from that was its a box on wheels, a 14k econo car made into something nice

Yes it will seat four. However leg room is minimal for adults in the back. Especially if one's sitting behind your 6'2" stature. Being 6'1" myself I can tell you this from personal experience.

Remember also that you'll lose some headroom if you decide to get the sunroof as well. I've got one but never had an issue with headroom. However some here have. I would suggest finding one at another dealership and take the family out for a test drive before buying.

My RX-8 has been known to carry four adults, quite comfortably.

I carry 4 adults in my car all the time, also took myself, gf, a friend and my dog on a 5 hour road trip with no problems. I'm 6'0 and sit fairly straight up and with my seating position sit on the driver's seat I can then go sit behind the seat and still be decently comfortable for short trips.

take them with you to a dealership and get everyone in to try it?

I suspect all four of you will fit. Don't forget that some kids will put up with a little lack of room just to be in a cool car (at least my sister and I did when my dad had his '66 Mustang convertible!)

But really—you have to get to a dealer who has one and just see for yourself. No way I'd order one without all four actually sitting in one first.

^Yes especially if your wanting to keep it long term. Kids grow up fast.

4 adults no problem for trips around town...

I'm 6-2 and I have 4 kids...of course, this isn't the car I use for transporting them (except the time I strapped my teenage son on the hood). I can easily fit my 5 and 2 year olds and their car seats in the back. I do have to "scrunch" up a bit, but it is not bad for a short ride. I've had difficulty keeping the 2 year old's feet off the back of the seats. I keep a mini-van around for transporting (you can find them relatively cheap now) the family. It's convenient and gets better gas mileage. Hope I helped.

Kids who are under 10 would be no problem. Just keep the taller of the two on the passenger's side since it seems you might be driving with the driver's seat all the the way back on the rail as usual. I'm 5'10" with a stocky build and I chose a car with no sunroof because I wanted the extra headroom.

My son who is 15 is 6'2'' and has trouble on long trips in the back but my two year old son fits fine in a car seat. He kicks the seat in front of him so he has to sit behind the passenger's seat so he won't distract me while I drive.

Also depends on how far you plan on driving with passengers in the back seat.

The biggest issue I have is that the front seats sit to low that most people can't get their feet under the seats when sitting in the rear. You never think this as a issue but being able to put your feet under a seat when sitting in the back can add inches to the room. So when I sit in the back (6,1) the seats are comfortable however find my legs hoping wanting that extra couple of inches.

Have sat back there for around 1 hour with no issue, any longer and I start wishing I could move my legs around more.


Test drive one though, should rarely buy any car without first test driving one. If the dealership you are looking to buy one doesn't have any, see if any other dealers do. The dealers around here don't care if you just go out to test drive one, hopefully yours are the same way.

sit in an 8 w/o a moonroof

I'd definetely get a sport package car with no sunroof, it helps a lot if you're 6' or over. I couldn't fit in a touring/GT with a helmet on because I lost too much headroom with the sunroof option. I wish they made a non sunroof package with leather/bose though.

have u looked at the mazda6?

I have the base 6mt, and today there I had the following in the car:
5'3"
5'11"
5'10"
5'7"

if you live with a bunch of tall freaks.... then no it will not seat 4. otherwise it should seat some pretty damn tall people, not too comfortably but you'll fit!

at 1 point my car loaded in person 1 at 5'11", 2 at 6'0", and 1 at 6'5"!
so yes most likely it will seat 4

It might be worth it to pull the seat up a bit for the times you have all 4 with you, or let your wife drive when all of you are in it, If this is your last ditch effort at a 4 seat sports car. Then the times you are alone in it will be so sweet! If it is going to be your only vehicle then I would look at something else. Like Detrich said, maybe the 6

This is part of the reason why I bought it - it CAN seat 4 in real comfort. My two boys prefer it to my wifes SUV comfort wise. I've had a car full of adults and they couldn't believe they fit so well.

That said, it all depends on height...legroom sucks though if you have a 6+ footer behind a 6+ footer. But it is still better than the comparables (i.e. G35, Mustang, 3 series) I tried.

The only negative? No real window view back there...great if you're watching DVD's like my boys, but not if you want scenery.

Agreed - I haul my three daughters around in it just fine. Usually it's the kids only, but sometimes I have various combinations of wife with 2 or less kids or co-workers or other friends.

I'm 5'11". Once in a while I pull the seat forward a notch to accommodate someone behind me, but most times it's not necessary.

If you have a 2nd vehicle in the family then the RX-8 should be fine for 'your' car. My wife's car is a Grand Voyager (which she likes very much). She's been quite reasonable about the fact that my car *cannot* carry the entire family - her car can and that's good enough for our transport needs.

Well I am 6'6" and I have had four adults in my car before.
Now I had to put my seat forward a bit to fit my wife behind me.
The passanger was 6'4" and his wife sat behind him.
Now it was a little cramped for driving a long way but I had no problem around town.
I put the Grandkids back there all the time and they love it.
Of course they are only 6 and 3yrs. old.
