can my 8 oo ga?

I have an '05 Shinka w/32,000 miles, I want to install an oo ga horn from a Model T.

It belonged to my Dad, I beleive it to be 9 volt.

Could it cause electrical issues?

Where would you mount it? I want to leave the original in place. I don't want it to be visible when you open the hood.

Any suggestions?

You might not want to throw 12V across whats basically an electric motor that wants 9V... not without some sort of resistor to drop to the voltage. It might take 12V just fine, or you could burn it up. I have no idea. You might want to google it, and see what other folks are doing or buy a new one

Now the obvious question... you want to put an aah-ooooh-gah horn on a modern japanese sports car? Really?

It's a strange family tradition! My dad had it in one of his Mustangs and a Chevy pickup. He would probably have a cow that I own a "Japanese sports car" but he would love the ride :^)

It's a pretty easy process to drop 12 volts to 9, not a big difference here so rather simple process. In order to do it the correct way and be safe, you want to acquire a small PC board and solder up a few resistors (not exactly sure on resistance values,) in series on the board. On either end of the board you will put the source (12 volts) and the load (9V horn.) Simple, but my explanation may be unclear as friday was a late night and I'm a bit groggy...Feel free to PM me and I can send you a simple wiring diagram showing how to hook it up.

I personally find the train horn to be awesome.

Oh no, please don't.

Why not an air horn, it's louder...lol

RogueTadhg 08-28-2011 09:59 AM

Louder? or Better? Hmm...

Do it! An RX-8 with a Model T horn would be phenomenal!

Yes, reduce the voltage to be sure you don't hurt your antique. A Google search should make it easy to find a how to.

Be sure to post a video/audio when you get it done.

After I realized that I never use the horn I got a 12v ooga. It's funny when I do press it everyone looks at every other car but mine. A vintage one out of an old ford will sound even better! (my father has one in his '30 ford)
Research resistors, shouldn't be too hard to drop it down to 9v.

why would you want to do that ..... wtf
