Can I use SAE 10-30W oil in MY RX-8

Well, I put SAE 10-30W castrol oil in my RX-8.
Well, I just found out that need to put 5-20W.
:banghead:
well, You think I need to change oil right away or I can use 10-30W.

You'll be fine.

Im too lazy to start a Engine Oil 101. so

As long as your local Temp wont drop below freezing point.

CarAndDriver 02-26-2007 02:47 PM

You'll be fine....most people use 5W-20 or 5W-30 though. It takes about 3 oil changes to completely get out previous oil so you currently have a mix of old and new.

No worries.

5W30 is specified for AU spec models. So far, there's not too many that I know of who has had issues with their engine down here.

It is spec everywhere except Canada and the US.

My friend with a half-bridge ported fd uses 10w30. Claims he's always used it, works just fine. I know this has nothing to do with a high performace rotary, but I, myself don't use that, I use 5w30.

My owner's manual has everything from 5W20 to 15W50 depending on temperature.

CyprusRX8 02-27-2007 09:28 AM

5W30 for Europe as well.

nycgps 02-27-2007 09:30 AM

5w30 for the rest of the world EXCEPT USA and Canada.

USA and Canada use 5w20 cuz it gives better emission.

It is all I run, except in the winter I run 5-30. The 8 loves it and so does the 7.

After the engine is at operating temps, a 0W30, 5W30, 10W30, and straight 30W oil are all the same thickness. It's only at warm up that they are different and even then depending on how cold it really is it may not be that different as colder and colder would be closer to the bottom number. On an 80 dgree day it isn't the difference between 5 and 10 but actually much closer. Your engine doesn't really even know. Most RX-7 owners use 20W50 and I did for a long time until I switched to a thinner one just because people said I couldn't. Don't worry about it. As long as you have oil in the engine, you're fine.

good job

otakurx 02-28-2007 11:18 AM

I have always liked thicker oils, but with temps here down in the single digits sometimes ya. But the only reason I don't run more then sae30 is for my own peace of mind with the MOP. When I premix ya tractor oil is fine (esp for those high revvs)
