C-Pillar
The C-Pillar (or b?) on 8 looks kind of awkward to me. Did some very crude photo editing ... what do you think of this one?
(borrowed the original pic from another thread ... sea ray, i hope you dont mind :-) |
looks less 'bubbly':

You're right, your edit looks better. That would take away even more of the already poor visibility from the backseat- although I guess that doesn't really matter...

I like it. The present rear window is pretty tiny and obscures peripheral vision in that quadrant. Your redesign seems to clear up those problems. Does you window open? How about it slides down into the door just like a "real" window instead of the popout design?
|
I applaud the fact that you are seeking to make the RX-8 truly "yours." But I think the pillar design, when thickened, as you have done, detracts from the forward slant of the design which, ultimately, directs the eyes forward along the window sill and down along the hood. Think of the great contrast, a design that screams forward movement and your eyes are pulled backward due to the slants and pulled forward due to subtle design cues. Oh how I dig the thought that went into this car.

Ok, you got my vote.

The current design reminds me of the 1st and 2nd generation RX-7 -- I think that was no accident.
|
The current design also reminds me of the safety feature they built into the car. Remember the reason that the RX-8 has no center pillar built into the frame is because it is built into the door. That pillar is a design feature and most likely will need to remain in the car. But when comparing looks I do appreciate your design thoughts.
