A/C fixed !!!!
Long story:
I purchased my RX 8 (used 1500 miles)last thursday (4-15) from Med Center Mazda. Everything was great, except for the A/c. It would cool perfectly for 5 seconds then warm up for 7- 10 seconds. I called my salesman, he arranged for me to take it Trussville Mazda as it is closer to my home .The next day the guys evacuated and recharged the A/C and updated the ECU. Our wait was short and the Technician came and informed me of everything that was done and also said that it was overcharged. Outside temps were about 50 degrees at that time. We left on vacation and as the outside temps went up to 78 degrees the a/c failed to perform (59 degrees), however it was lots better than before. I dropped the car off at Med Center Mazda monday, 5 minutes later I was in a nice loaner car, and was assured they would make me happy no matter what. SW called and informed me they had ordered a A/c amplifier and car would be ready Tuesday. I picked the car Tuesday afternoon (freshly washed),with outside temps at 84 degrees, inside the a/c was blowing 38 degrees out of the center vent!!!!! A/C blows very cold now!!!!!!! I read every thread on the A/C issue and really dont understand why anyone would tolerate this. Go to your dealer and complain!! I highly recommend Trussville Mazda and Med Center MAzda in Birmingham Alabama. Eric Barger |
I'm next. My A/C is weak, and it's getting hot here.

Eric,
Thanks for the confirmation that the amplifier works. I will be getting mine done when I take it to the dealer in Huntsville for the recall fixes. And welcome to the Club. |
Thanks for the welcome.
A/c works great now. Interior temp was 89 degrees this afternoon, it took about 2 minutes to lower that to 68 degrees!!! |
Thank you jericbarg and thank you snap-on. You guys make it worth while to read this forum. I'm going to get this done when I get my blown center channel replaced.
|
The A/C in my car works great, I live in Miami and even on hot days it never goes past fan speed 2...

A/C fix and M flash, here I come!
|
jericbarg,
Could you find out from your service department what their fix for the A/C was? Was it just a simple recharge of the system? I haven't complained about mine yet since I don't use it too often (I love rollin' with the windows and sunroof open) but I'd like to be knowledgible about the fix. THANKS! |
Search the other threads. Mazda has issued a Service Bulletin with a fix specified. They are replacing A/C amplifier.
|
Thanks for the info about the amplifer... I notified my dealer and he already has the part on order... taking in next Friday for oil change and a/c fix (hopefully)....
|
This forum is awesome for this kind of information. I only wish I had used a comparable forum when I had my RX7.

Just had the A/C Amplifier replaced, didn't notice any difference on a 80 F day
|
I just took my car in today. They told me that others owners have complained and that this A/C stuff was still an experiment and that possibly more than the amplifier would have to be replaced to make things right. When asked what these additional parts might be, they got very vague with me. I will ask again this evening when I pick my baby up. Also getting the "M" flash today. Joy Joy for me. :)

Ok, got mine done and there seems to be a difference. It's not as big a difference as I thought though. Before it was an obvious fluctuation. Now it seems to still have that warm/cold/warm/cold oscillation, but it's much more minor. I will say the A/C seems to work better on warm days. But on hot days it's still a pretty lame A/C system. I should have marked the old A/C amplifier just to make sure it was replaced. I hate to say that, but I am paranoid. My service department has done nothing but good things for me, but it's not the difference I was hoping for.

Originally posted by Gyro I always check stuff like that. I looked for marks on the screws. There was some marks on the shiny heads of the screws so I know they did the job. |
SO, your A/C is still cycling between cold and hot?
88 degrees here today and vent temps were 39 degrees, it took about a minute to cool interior to comfortable temp. |
Yes. It still waffles a little between cold and cool. It's not warm/cold as I said before. That's just an exaggeration of what it's really doing, which is going from cold to not as cold. As I said, it's better, but not consistant, nor really COLD. It's just cooler I think.
What are you using to gauge the temp of the vents? Are you using a temp gun with IR? If so, what are you aiming at? And what was the temp using the same measuring technique before the new A/C amp? |
Hey Gyro. Interesting avatar but I have to ask: Are you trying to tell us something?
|
Had mine "fixed" and it reacts much like DJFreon in that it still flucuates but not as much and cools better but can't be considered "cold". Before the fix the air at the vent with setting at max and set on recirculate was somewhere around 48 degrees . . . now it comes in at around 42 degrees. Some improvement but not great. It was 90 today and summer is coming.

I had my amp replaced last week. It didn't do any good. They have ordered more parts and they will be installed tomorrow. Hopefully that'll do the trick. I know the car looks hot but it sure doesn't need to feel that way!
|
Do you know what additional parts they ordered? It'd be interesting to know what else they are trying to replace to tackle the problem.
