A/C Air Temp Fluctuation

Mazda found out what the A/C problem is! Look at the latest
Service Bulletin(#07-002/04). It's the A/C amplifier and they can replace it and we will have the air we deserve. I'm gonna call them Monday.....YES....
:D

Living in Las Vegas I have some warmer temps to deal with during our summer months. I have had this a/c amp installed and truthfully I can't see as it does a whole lot of good. We have had some 80F days so far and the air temp no longer cycles cold, hot, cold, but the air temp is not really that cold in the first place. I have read all the threads regarding the 8's compressor design so it can funtion over a large rpm range, but in town at a stop light the output just ain't that cool. My Protege's a/c system will allow you to hang meat in the car! Now get the car on the highway doing 4k on the tach and the air temp is cooler, but not arctic. So unless the compressor was designed to optimize at 6k or 7k I can't see any sweet spot in the design. I would not be surprised if one of the TSB's eventually instruct a new compressor design to be installed.
If any one has any hints, please feel free to post them. FYI I have the darkest "legal" tint allowed in NV and the car is ver rarely ever left sitting in the sun.

I think this may be a false alarm too. I went into my dealer with that TSB and he checked the part number for me....it doesn't exist in Japan. We think it's due to the fact the in Japan we have the climate control. So I don't have that part but still have the problem, therefore I assume it's something else. i.e. Basically the A/C doesn't get cold enough. Unless there is a simpler explanation like part numbers are prefixed differently in different countries.

To try to clarrify a bit for me: does anyone in Canada have this problem? (as Canada have climate control right?). Does this TSB apply to Canada?

Hmm very interesting... I'm taking my car in for a CEL tomorrow, but I definatley have this problem too. I'll have to print this one out and take it in with me. Thanks for posting Kagero!

i took my 8 in for the flash today and got the latest "m" flash and i told them about the a/c tsb and they checked my a/c. DENIED.

Hmm... that sucks. Call Mazda NA. My service writer started to give me a song and dance about how "some condensation is normal" and "you have to have it on outside air" and "sometimes it just can't keep up." "Just check it out," I said, "there's a TSB."

He called Mazda NA and they authorized the repair indicated by the TSB, even though my car is about 1000 units over the top range for the TSB. Methinks they underestimated.

I've noticed nothing with the new amp. The cycling and seemingly warm air still persists. I think all the new amp does is force the recirculation rather than defaulting to the a/c with the outside air. I use the a/c at full blast and it hasn't even hit 90 yet. I NEVER used the a/c at full blast in my old car. it was too overpowering. Its going to be a long summer...

Folks, see this thread about this issue too.

Kagero 05-01-2004 12:18 AM

I got a call from my dealer that the A/C amp is in. Good service, cant wait to see if it fixes the prob(got Monday afternoon apt). I'm enjoying the extra low end torque and even smoother performance from the new PCM flash. I got 25.8mpg on last tank all hwy, 87oct, cruzing about 70mph mostly.....no complaints here.

Gonna call later today , man have I been sweating for so long , this is good news !

Kagero 05-06-2004 12:37 AM

Well I got the A/C amp TSB done today. I did not get to check it out real good but, it did not get hot and cold as before. The service rep said Mazda changed a "Thermistor" that leaves the compressor on longer. I did notice once that the flow thru/recycle air lite was in the recycle mod and I dont think I touched it. I will have to see when it goes on, on its own.
