to buy or not to buy...

i am seriously looking at an '04 rx8 as my next car. i've been doing research all night and have seen about an equal amount of great and terrible reviews on the car. What i've gathered in a nutshell is poor gas mileage, burns more oil than most cars, and i'll need to be careful turning it off while it's still cold. these are all things i can live w/ if otherwise it is a reliable car that i can depend on not having major ($$$) problems anytime in the near future. The paticular one i'm looking at has 50k miles on it, 4k from 1st owner, and 46k from the second owner in just over a year, which i kind of balk at...that's more than double average mileage. cosmetically the car is nearly spotless and i can get it for $15,700. I worry about the high miles on a young car and no warranty. Any thoughts, advice, opinions??

50k miles!, holy hell you can def find one with half those miles for just a few thousand more

that IS an awlful amount of miles on the car....so you have a clue as to why there are so many miles on the car....i would check on that one and also check if the engine recall was done....

im not sure about the price....as ive never encountered an 8 with that many miles on it in such a short time.....

but I LOVE my 8 and would neva give it up.....

ask lots of questions....ie why are they selling it, etc...
good luck :D:

that means it's hiway miles. That's perfect, beats city miles and stop and go traffic.
There's probably likkte wear on the brakes, but at 50k you either need new ones or they were replaced.

I alway look for a car not driven in traffic. Each used car has last me several years.

It depends how you drive as to the mpg. As for reliabilty we have 05 and only recalls and routine service. The oil consumption, yes it does use oil to lube the seals. When cold do not shut off till the temp gauge comes up. Other than that this car drives GREAT. If you like one GET ONE . I personally would not buy one with a warranty

Are you serious!? Reviews of the 8 have been almost unanimously glowing—the only cars I can think of that reviewers gush over as much—or more—are the M3 and the 911. Reading one rave review after another was the thing that got me curious about the car in the first place—and I have not been disappointed.

04' with 50k on teh odometer for over 15k, are you serious? Is it a GT? Nav? i have seen 04's with less than 15k on the odometer for 18-19k. I paid 22k (with 100 mile extended warranty) for an 04' with only 12k on the odometer. Oh, and miles are miles. I drive over 100 miles a day give or take on the highway but there are plenty of bad tarffic days were I am in stop and go. Everyone will tell you they are "just highway miles".
