burn out
 

Ok for all of you that are going to flame about this just close the thread now. I tried to do a burnout tonight seeing that it was wet out and this is how it went. I reved to 4500 dropped the clutch and went to the brake right away, my result was wheel hop for a second or two and then it stalled. now i have seen pics and vids of people doing this on dry road and it was nice but i just couldnt do it. And once again im going to b hear about going through tires and what not, my reply to that is I bought the car not you, you can do as you chose with your and i will do what i want with mine, and i have seen on here before about how people have smart ass comments about the tires, and then they post right after that about how they went to a road course. Isnt that abusing your car as well, and going through tires as well? so if you have some honest opinion about this please let me know, i know many of you are very smart when it comes to this. Thanks again and sorry for the rant at the end of this, just some things bother me thats all.

Thank you, but it goes straight to wheel hop, im prob going to order the rb rear sway cause i read that it help out a lot. But im talking about just sitting there lighting the tires up.. you need to use the brake for that. thanks again.

... and don't just drop the clutch- slip it/feather it a little at first to get a little wheelspin, then completely release the clutch while adding more gas. Please do this in an empty parking lot ;)

thanks, i was in an empty parking lot that was asphalt, so it kinda threw me off as to why it didnt work. Thank i will try that again sometime, just not soon.

That wheelhop really catches you off guard the first time... the 8 is tricky to launch cleanly from my autocross experience. I had some serious hop this morning on the way to work in the rain from taking off to hard from a stop sign up a slight hill... really jolts you awake :).

did you disable the DSC/TSC? you won't pull off a burn out with those on!

unless you know how to drive a rear wheel car turn off the car and turn it back on before you go driving around town...I don't want to see anymore bad pics of precious 8 looking like a U-turn around a tree

yeah scared the shit out of me! I got used to my mustang, it had 700 horse and just lit the tires up like there was no tomorrow, that was the first time i ever felt wheel hop. People told me about it and i thought i understood them, but you dont until you feel it first hand yourself!

This is probably such a dumb question, and I have no experience with this obviously, but is it even possible to do this with an A/T?

In theory, yes, in fact easier, you can put your left foot on the brake and rev up - in practice, the 8 AT has tall gearing as I understand it so you might not have the go.

Note this is not very good for your torque converter!

be careful. wheel hop is terribly hard on more than just the tires.

Seems like I tried that and all it did was jar forward a little. Wouldn't that destroy the rear brakes?

i dont have TCS/DSC and i take my car out to the hills, worse than autocross....no problems.

What he's trying to do is called a "brake stand", aka Line Lock. The line lock would generally refer to haveing a switch to hold just the front brakes on. In order to get the rear tires spinning freely you have to DROP the clutch at close to 8k and get immediately on the brake, but don't press it as hard as you can. Just enough to hold the car in place. The engine can overpower the rear brakes and kinetic friction on the tires if you have it at the top of the rpms.
I could do it rather easily in my 2.8L Z3 and my old 325is AT THE DRAGSTRIP the couple times I went. Ok, I'll admit, I've done it at stoplights a couple times, too. I think they were in the rain, though, where I wouldn't chew up so much rubber. I don't care. Flame me all you want.
Video tape yourself doing this so that you can live it over and over for the $50 worth of tires that you just melted. Then post it here!

I turn it DSC off when it rains and really have some fun roaring out of banks and parking lots...otherwise I don't like slipping the clutch too much, although I probably do when shifting anyways

I think i know how to drive a rear wheels drive car. My musatng was supercharged putting out around 400 to the wheels when it was daily driven, and yes that was in a 89 stang so no fancy stuff like traction control on it. I even had to drive the car in snow a couple of times, but i learned from going to empty parking lots when it was wet and there was a little snow on the ground. That how nyou really learn to control a car. I feel everyone should learn on a rear wheel drive car in the winter, so you know how easy a back end can swing out on you! but i do know what i am doing, i can go in a straight line with the car sideways and bring it back around and then straighten it out without a problem. I dont plan on having my cars pic up here wrappped around a tree. IM 21 now well in a month. and had a supercharged stang at 16 so i know how to handle a car. Thank you though for your concern.
