broken down

leaving work yesterday, engine light came on and the cars revving became erratic. The engine would rev slower than i could ever imagine, and the idleing became unstable. i turned off the car, and turned it on, and it was fine, so i drove home. then today after school it did it again, so i called mazda. They said bring it in, and so after work i tried to drive it over there, and the car died. it turned on for me 2-3 more times, but it eventually quit starting. Now i have to have it towed there.

Mileage- 40,000

Does anyone think they know what could be wrong? The car is still warrantied, but do u think they will try and screw me over? Someone help me and give me an idea of what could be wrong and what to expect from Mazda...

Coils?

Whiteboi2189 04-12-2007 12:12 AM

they were next on my list to replace, sadly... right along with the plugs
pretty reasonable idea, i dont think mazda is gonna put that under warranty either

Find out what's wrong from the dealer and let us know.

Mazda tries and takes care of its RX-8 owners with low mileage problems such as yourself. Of course the dealer's are independent from MNAO. If one dealer isn't playing nice you can always bring it to another one.

Not my dealer—they've been great, so far. (Of course, with the 8 there's hardly much for them to do except oil changes and the emissions recall. So maybe they haven't really been "tested" yet.) I know Mazda dealers generally score really low in service, but so far I've been lucky. When my '99 Miata needed a new engine (#4 bearing), that was taken care of professionally—and that was a different Mazda dealer.

Didn't you get the warranty extension with the recall notice? Why wouldn't they fix it?

Which dealership you go ?

Raptor2k 04-12-2007 06:05 PM

My dealership has always done a perfect job for whatever problem I've had, and they're speedy and reliable.

woot?

Mazda service is hit or miss. You can't judge all the service departments equally.

NoTears316 04-12-2007 06:38 PM

I have had great experiences with the service department at my dealership. It's a shame that I'm moving.

Wayne Mazda on Rt. 23 in NJ, about 20 min. west of the GW Bridge. I love the fact that all they sell is Mazda. They're really pretty good—I think they may be the largest Mazda dealer in the country. Seems like lots of rotary gear heads take their cars there.

the car got towed yesterday, now im waiting for it to just go through service. i shouldnt be too far in the back, the guy i talked to said i was second in line, so it shouldnt be long to hear from them today

Whiteboi2189 04-14-2007 02:55 PM

car came back yesterday, they replaced a set of coils and all of my spark plugs, along with a bigger starter, and it was all free. so it made me feel better. Only problem was that when i left the dealership, i started hearing noises coming from the back of my car, coming from the exhaust or something, i dont know what, but i may be going in on monday again to have it checked...
oh, and they messed up the powder coating on one of my rims, i was soo pissed
